For an approxamate 12 mile journey, it takes me about 20 min average in the morning (14 min if I hit EVERYTHING right). In the afternoon, it depends on the day. Monday through Wednesday has an average of about 30 minutes. Thursday and Friday usually are around 45 minutes, but can be as long as an hour and thirty minutes (especially if I don't take side roads).

To school it is about 50~60 blocks which takes:
12 minutes with no traffic
20 in the morning/afternoon rushhour by car or bus
50 minutes on bike

Dang thats rough. I didnt know san diego traffic was that bad. LA has to be the worst, but an hour to go 12 miles is pretty bad. Anyways i go about 2 miles and it ranges from like 5-10 minutes depending on the backup at McClealan (the street my school is on). To get home it depends if i walk or get a ride so from 5-20 or so minutes depending on the way i go and how fast i walk.

KZ: are there any freeway merges in San Francisco? If there are, you may see why my commute is so bad. Going from the merge of the I-5/805, the freeway goes from 8 lanes each way to 4. Then, on the side roads, one major road goes from 2 to one and then back as it goes along the beach, and the other narrows from three each way to one (I have spent fourty-five minutes from this point, and I can see my house from it, adding to the agony).

The very worst part about the 5/805 merge is that while one would expect the I-5 to be treated as the main road, the 805 is given preffernce. So much, in fact, that while merging from the 5, the four lanes that previously made it up disappear. The same is true while it diverges. One has to move all the way over in either case.

Oh we have plenty of merges, but not nearly as bad as that. I think one of the worst bottlenecks was on I-880 after 101, 4 lanes to 2 is not fun. It has since opened up to 4 i believe but shrinks again to 3 at 238 (Mission Blvd.) OVerall though we dont have too many situations like that. Most have either been fixed in the last 10 years or are being fixed up right now. Also, out traffic is down due to the becasue of the slowness in the computer industry of late, but it is starting to pick up once again.

Typically, my commute is short - about 15 seconds from kitchen and coffee maker to my home office upstairs. On a warm day, I commute to the backyard with my portable phone and laptop.

I take it your a journalist then Altaskier and work for a newspaper. It's nice not having to go to the office everyday.

Anyway, my commute is about 23 minutes to school and a 10 minute walk to class.
