I toured the Kaatskill Flyer at Hunter Mountain over the summer and I was told that the electric motor spins at 1,700 rpm when the lift is at 1,000 fpm. This is a 2010 Leitner Poma 6-pack. I have also noticed that most Poma drives of the same vintage sound similar. Is this due to the speed the motor runs? I have also noticed that Doppelmayr drives sound much higher pitched than Poma drives. I assume that this means that they run at a much higher speed. Somewhere else on this forum I heard that the speed was 2,500 rpm. Is this true? Also, what is the standard motor speed on lifts built today by each manufacturer?

Doppelmayr's typically run around 1700, Poma's more like 1100-1200. This is due to different gearbox ratios, which require more torque from the lower rpm motors. (poma)

PK boxes all sound the same, I've noticed. My '86 with two 1200 rpm motors sounds like our '98 with one. The gearbox noise is much more noticeable than the motors. The Lohmann boxes supplied with Doppelmayrs definitely sound higher-pitched.
