Sounds like Les Otten is getting back into the ski biz.

It would be awesome if Les Otten could pull off another Sunday River. He transformed it from a tiny Maine hill into one of the largest and most visited resorts in the East. New England has lost so many of its industries so I'm not surprised there is less of a NIMBY reaction so far. No doubt it will take a massive investment but having the entire Northeast Corridor within driving distance is a plus.

Check out the size of the proposed expansion at the Balsams. From their website:

Pods with 3 trails for one lift.
North, East, South and West exposures.
Three (count them- THREE including a Gondola) lifts coming out of Balsam Lake Village.
One trail returning to BLV (4 if you can ski the lift lines). "Don't be so short sighted, Dino...you can ride the Gondola back to BLV".
Looks like the kind of 'proposal' I'd put together if I was looking for $28M in guaranteed bond funds.... and "this is it, there is no Plan B".

ASC is back. Although I consider them the worst ski resort operator to ever have existed, you've gotta admire Otten's perseverance. He just won't give up, even after ASC crumbled. Hopefully he learns from his past mistakes.

Otten Empire rising?

Your right, it looks like about twice the lifts that are actually needed. If you are Deer Valley that's fine but with his history it is an issue.

The way you worded this thread, I thought you meant the OttoMAN Empire was rising. (Was that the intent? lol)
