From another post there was a discussion about the Wayback that would fit better here so we can go ahead with it here. I believe that the Wayback was built to possibly be upgraded to a HSQ later. There is an alternate route . Its alot better if you have skate skis on though. Not much fun. I have been back there when the Wayback broke down seriously. It was a 15 minute flat track trek :censored: even with LOTS of speed comming from the top of the outback.

Do you mean that small clearing of trees that leads to the Ruby and Santiago? They don't have that marked as a trail. Is it closed?

What happened when that Wayback broke down when you were there?

I don't know what hapened it it. The path is not a real trail, its the access road that was used to bring in suplies when construction was underway on the Outback. They do open it sometimes, usualy only when the wayback breaks down or the line is really long. When it breaks down they usualy use a cat to take people back to the North Peak base. I don't remember exactly where it starts and ends but I just remember it being very very long.

You would think they would bring in snowcats, because since the trail not marked as a trail on the map people might not know it's there.

And the bad thing is, that trail is the only alternative if Wayback breaks down, unless they decide to send in some snowcats.

They have diverted cats from the upper bowls and the ones that serve the North Peak resturant when the outpost or river run breaks down. They will run them allong that "run" to get people out when it does break down, If it isnt something that can be fixed quickly.

When all of you talk about all of these lifts breaking down, it makes me wonder how commom a lift breaks. I'm going to start a topic about that.

What do you consider "can be fixed quickly?" Like what type of problem and how quickly.

So it's more about whether its serious enough to have to evacuate people. How long would they usually have to take to fix it to initiate an evac?

Depends what the problem is. If it's some catastrophic gearbox failure that could take a week to fix, then they'll do an evac and send everyone out some other way

So if it's anything longer, than say, 15-30 minutes or so to fis then they will evac?

No, it totally depends on the situation. I've been stuck on a lift for 40 minutes before when it has broken down and they are able to get it going again. If a serious problem occurs, there is most likely going to be an evac, but if the electric motor happens to die, it takes some time to switch the belts over to the AUX motor to get the lift moving.

So it can depend on the situation and whether or not they will actually be able to get the people off the lift?

I would guess that if it was a significantly long time to wait (a couple hours) that they would evac. It must be terrible to be on the chair that is almost at the terminal but not quite.
