When referring to the item between the chair hanger and the chair, which is it? What is the origin?

I was originally exposed to the term chair "bail" and used that during the 'Installation' phase of my career. During the "Maintenance" phase of my career, during a discussion about this topic, I was convinced that the correct term was "bale" which meant to surround, as in surround the people in the chair. After doing some research, I found that both spellings are interchangeable when patterned after the definition "a semi circle handle of a kettle, bucket, etc.". Dino

Yea, aug, that was my read, too. I think I was convinced by a bunch of farmers from Nebraska. They tend to gravitate to Colorado...Left Coast is a bit too much for them!! lol

So as I take it ...Anything that resembles a metallic hoop could or should be called a bail unless the parts list calls it something else such as doppelmayr calling it "Kleiderbügel (Hanger)
