I posted this on Alpine Zone: http://forums.alpine...w-Lift-Question
Any of you guys know why they would replace the whole terminal instead of keeping the original Yan box?

It may have been due to the lift's gearbox being switched to a hydrostatic version, something Yan started doing in that era. This "may" have required additional room to install.

I could be wrong, but it appears that it is the original yan box terminal with an extension added to it. notice the sheet metal on half of summit locals terminal. the yan terminals with the rounded end typically have windows all around them. they must have extended the motor room when the new gearbox was added.

and here is what a typical yan terminal with the rounded end looks like.

You're right! I never noticed that! I always assumed that the original terminal was put on another lift or scrapped. This mountain also had another strange Yan phenomenon. Check out this picture of the Grand Summit Express, a 1987 Yan HSQ. This photo is after the lift was modified by Poma:

It still retained the original Yancake until 2011. I've heard rumors that it had a pre-Quicksilver Poma rebuild. Very odd.

Skiersage is correct. The answer from Dennis at Mount Snow...

The drive terminal was never replaced, the octagon part was an add on to the original square terminal. In the 80’s thru the early 90’s there were several upgrades which include replacement of the dc drive and the tower detection system, replacement of the electric motor from a 400hp to a 500hp, replacement of the apu from gas to a diesel, and the upper section of the 475 gear box was replaced to except a new type of oil cooler. There were many other modifications to the lift but I’m going to save those in case I need money after I retire and I can write a book it.
