What are yours?

Mines are:

1. People who tailgate me for no good reason (I tend to go the speed limit and it feels like everyone else is speeding around me).

2. People who pass me on the right when it's clear that doing so won't save any travel time.

3. People who make lane changes without signalling.

4. People who talk on handheld cell phones while driving.

If you are on the highway and you are driving in the left lane (passing lane) you should migrate to the "slow lane" once you pass the person in the right lane. Sounds like you are hanging out in the "fast lane" and that causes #2 and #3.

Maybe I forgot to also mention that the reason I am in the left lane to begin with is because I need to get to a left turn lane. There are a few stretches of road where I have to be there.

That's also the reason to stay in the middle or left lane when you're on US 6 in Denver - On-ramps have little to no acceleration area.

I can probably add a few to here as well, after driving over 3,000 miles for a ski trip in the last week.

1. People who text and drive. (Usually they drive very erratically.)

2. People who never use turn signals. (Sometimes at least they are a little easier to predict.)

3. People on rural four-lane highways who forget that they need to be passing if they are in the left lane. This gets really irritating when there is someone right next to them driving the same speed in the right lane. (When decent skiing is over 850 miles away, it takes a while to get to it. Driving 80+ mph across the plains helps!)

4. The biggest one for me is trucks that are speed-governed at less than 75 mph. It's beyond annoying when a 65 mph truck tries to pass a 64 mph truck.
(We have several Mack trucks too, for moving construction equipment, and the electronic controls are set at 80-83 mph, giving plenty of speed for passing or getting a run at a hill with 150,000 lbs.)

In the risk of starting a whole new heated conversation, I'll bite.
  • People who drive in the left lane continuously forcing me to pass them in the right lane.
  • People who take forever to pass trucks. (In all seriousness this is one of the most dangerous behaviors that I see all too much of. Someone will fly by me at 75 mph get right next to a truck, slow down to 66 and take 30 seconds to get past.)
  • People who don't have proper tires and driving skills to drive on winter roads. You're going to the mountains to ski, did you really not think there would be snow on the roads and that summer tires on your 2X4 Suburban would be adequate?

Drivers who chat with passengers and feel the need to look at them while making a point.
Drivers who spend more time looking out the side windows than looking out the windshield.
People tossing trash out from car windows.

Drivers going slower than me: Get out of the way!
Drivers going faster than me: Slow down moron!
Drivers going the same speed as me: Now I have to slow down or pass to get away from you and have an empty road again, jerk!

Clearly, you are a constantly disgruntled driver. You don't have a concealed-carry permit, do you?

Please post a mugshot of your car.

People from the Midwest- pick a State, that drive from their house to their favorite Colorado ski area and never leave the left or fast lane....except to get off to buy junk food or go to the bathroom....and do it all with their hat and goggles on!!

Definately slow drivers who refuse to move over. (I-70 is full of these). Many are distracted, March has been miserable for driving on I-70 both Fridays and Saturdays. One of the many examples is a driver so enamored with his GPS, he was going 45 mph down I-70 on dry conditions, 20 mph below the speed limit. Another is the RV towing a vehicle up I-70 Genesee hill stradling right and center lanes a couple of Saturdays ago. Tried to pass on the right, the vehicle moved over to prevent this, tried to pass in the center lane, vehicle moved over to prevent this also. Left lane was clogged with vehicles who were lucky enough to be in the correct lane at the correct time. Multiple vehicles sounded horns and flashed lights including myself, the driver still didn't get a clue. One of the worst Marchs I remember for heavy traffic and heavy traffic that is at least 10 times worse than it needs to be due to behaviors.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but most RVs don't have rearview mirrors, just side mirrors, meaning it can be hard for them to see that there is traffic trying to pass them.

That may be true but it is never OK to straddle two lanes on a busy interstate and slower traffic should always be in the right lane unless passing with no exceptions.

The only time you should ever be slow in the left lane is if you are preparing to move into a turn lane.

That is correct, it's illegal and called impending traffic unfortunately the cops would rather write seatbelt and speeding tickets because the fines are higher.

Just wait till CDOT gets really deep into I-70 widening. I'm gonna be taking 285 into Denver a lot more.

I've done that twice this season on day trips coming from Breckenridge: on New Year's Day and on St. Patty's Day.
