Look at the video...
I never see a long distance loading and unloading in that video before. The lift is in Italy I guess so. Most lifts have short distance loading and unloading.

It looks to me like they have just used man made material to replace snow no the loading and unloading ramps. Stabilize the skier, keep them from sliding past the load position , and make them unload at the correct time-at the break over point.
And no more ramp maintenance for the operator!
