The new Haystack lift seems to have gotten a name change. It's now listed at "Stag's Leap" on the snow report. That's a reference to the new housing development at the top of the lower mountain and location of the mid-station.

The Kensho SuperChair and Zendo are scheduled for opening on the 25th, next Wednesday. Hopefully I can be up in Breckenridge next Thursday to record footage of both lifts and get photos on both too. I also plan on seeing if I can get some photos of them from a distance - as in from the Independence SuperChair or the Mercury SuperChair - tomorrow.

Got the SAM lift survey in the mail today...we missed 2 projects...a Doppelmayr T-Bar at Sugar Bowl and a Doppelmayr quad at Kinosoo, Alberta.

Squamish Gondola Cabin Falls During Testing

No one was injured and no construction delays are expected after a gondola compartment fell from the Sea-to-Sky Gondola during testing this week near Squamish.

Project general manager Jayson Faulkner said the incident took place Tuesday morning and is being investigated as a “construction incident.”

Testing was being done on the gondola in advance of its scheduled May 2014 opening when the gondola compartment fell.

Faulkner said lift manufacturer Doppelmayr and the B.C. Safety Authority were both on site with project staff this week to investigate the cause of the compartment’s fall.

“We have confirmed that no one was injured as a result of this incident,” Faulkner said. “The lift is currently under construction and as such, is not open to the general public.”

Faulkner said further testing will be done to ensure construction of the lift is completed safely and on schedule.

The gondola will link the base of the Stawamus Chief to the peak, and will feature a lodge and restaurant at the top. Sales have already begun for passes to the attraction, which will cost about $22 million to construct.

"The exact cause of the fall during the test was unknown, but the cabin has been damaged beyond repair. British Columbia Safe Authority and Doppelmayr are conducting an investigation to determine the cause. No one was injured."

"According to the Squamish Chief, “the incident occurred as the system was undergoing an early-morning line check. The cabin was only about three or four metres off the ground when it fell near Tower 7 onto the rocks below.”

"Once completely finished, the gondola will have “multiple redundancies” to ensure this does not occur again. The cabin fall occurred during the attraction’s construction phase."

Do we know exactly what fell? Did the whole cabin including hanger arm and grip fall, or was it just the cabin that detached from the hanger arm?

Does anyone know what the official capacities are for the Zendo Chair and Kensho Superchair in Breck?

I believe Zendo is 1,800 pph and the Kensho SuperChair is 3,000 pph, the same as the Independence SuperChair, but with closer spaced chairs.
