We are hiring a strategic, quality driven Director of Mountain Operations for Northstar California. This individual will be responsible for the oversight and leadership of all on mountain operations departments; including lift operations, lift maintenance, grooming, terrain parks, ski patrol, mountain safety, snowmaking and summer operations.
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversight and leadership of all on mountain operations departments; including lift operations, lift maintenance, grooming, terrain parks,ski patrol, mountain safety, snowmaking, and capital projects.
- Accountable for all mountain operations goals while contributing to overall resort and corporate goals and initiatives.
- Create/oversee departmental budgets while tracking performance to standards.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders outside the sphere of direct reports. This includes Town of Truckee, Placer and Nevada Counties, State of California Regulatory Agencies, Lahontan Regional Water Regulatory Agency, numerous Environmental Groups, NSAA, CSIA, etc.
- Maintains "subject matter expert" status of ski and snowboard industry; proactive of industry trends and potential impacts on Northstar.
- Responsible for on-going master planning, capital planning, as well as normal expense planning and implementation.
- Responsible for creation and implementation for the Northstar Emergency Response Plan. Training and ability to act as Incident Commander for all emergency situations.
- Updates and reviews annual Avalanche Control Plan.
- Ensure all Company records are updated and that necessary Permits are in-place for continued operation.
- Develop and distribute schedules for all mountain operation facilities.
- Ability to prioritize and adapt in a constantly changing business and environmental setting
- Increase operational efficiency through on-going intra and inter-departmental communication and cooperation.
- Activley Participate all resorts mountian Operatiosn best practice group
- oversee benchmark review of all departments on an annual basis
- Develop and implement managerial competency standards and developmental plans.
- Develop succession plan within operating group.
- Responsible to review all work comp. and property loss reports in all mountain departments in order to make adjustments and improve performance.
- Oversee all disciplinary review of all mountain operation departments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree - Required
- 15+ years experience in Mountain Operations - Required
- 5 years of senior management experience as well as management of multiple departments - Required
- Demonstrated strong financial management - Required
- Strong communication, leadership, and team building skills - Required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Required
- Proficient written and oral English language skills- Required
- Bilingual Spanish - Preferred
- Knowledge of explosives and handling, HazMat, and all compliance of oversight through regulatory agencies - Required
- Advanced skiing/riding ability - Required
- Must have ability to prioritize and adapt in a constantly changing business and environmental setting - Required
- Certification in National Avalanche School - Preferred
