Yikes! Why didn't that thing stop sooner! The lifties should at least have hit a stop button as they were running away!! :)

Here is another ski lift getting totaled by an avalanche. The fun begins at the 0:50 mark in the video

About stopping the lift, of course there are no rules about this kind of thing and who knows if it was intentional or not, but would it not be better to leave the lift running in this specific instance in the hope of getting the people on the lift as high up the slide as possible?

Wow, The video of the people on the chairs tells you just how slow moving that slide was. I wish I knew French.

I'd have to agree. The lift probably stopped on a tower fault anyway.

Yea, keep it running...but maybe stop loading as well! The last loaded chair is only one space out of the terminal when the snow slide is at the first support tower. At the rate of movement, I would guess that the 'avalanche' started over a minute before it got to the portal towers. Good thing the deropement circuit functioned.

The comment said that the lift operator let the chair lift run to make sure passengers were clear of the runout zone. Then she got her colleague at the top station to stop the lift.
