MEDIA ALERT: Chairlift incident at Boyne Highlands

2/27/12

Boyne Highlands

Harbor Springs, Mich. (February 27, 2012, 5 p.m.) – At approximately 1 p.m. Saturday, February 25, a single chair fell from the Camelot lift, located in the beginner area, at Boyne Highlands Resort. Two people were on the chair at the time of the incident and the chair was approximately six feet off the ground. Boyne Highlands’ ski patrol responded to the incident, and the two guests on the chair were treated for apparent minor injuries.
At this time, the cause of the incident is unknown. A thorough investigation is ongoing and Boyne Highlands’ officials are working with the Lift Inspector for the State of Michigan to determine the cause.
“The safety of our customers is our utmost concern and we take this incident very seriously,” said Boyne Highlands’ area manager Joe Breighner. “We wish our guests that were affected a full and speedy recovery.”
The Camelot lift undergoes a daily safety check list before operating each morning. In addition, the lift passed a yearly state safety inspection prior to the 2011/12 winter season, which is required for a chairlift to operate.
Following the incident, the resort safely unloaded all passengers currently on the lift, and the lift was shutdown. Resort officials then worked with the State of Michigan Lift Inspector throughout the day to ensure the necessary steps were taken to safely operate the lift. At approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, after completing a series of safety checks and with the approval of the State of Michigan, the Camelot chairlift was reopened.
Boyne Highlands Resort is committed to continuing this investigation with the State of Michigan.

Is this lift using a clip in the cable or a normal grip?

Only Boyne would have the stones to advertise in a press release concerning a saftey issue. You know what I'm up for, Im up for you Boyne making safety more than a catch phrase. Last year sugarloaf, this year boyne higlands, who is next.

On many occassions, advertising has no boundaries, its pretty sick (and not in a good way). Hopefully those people are OK, it could have been much worse.

when something like this happens on a Sat., right in front our your base lodge, some sort of press was needed. Boyne in Michigan is very safety oriented, in my opinion.

I agree you need to put out a press release, but to put that last paragraph in there saying how great you are and come ski is in my opinion a little over the top. As a former Boyne employee, I can tell you that saftey is not there top priority, in fact I was once told by an operations guy from michigan ' I will not put saftey in front of production.' That was a very loud message.

While I agree with festus, I have a feeling that 'blurb' is stock at the bottom of EVERY press release they put out.
