Skiers rescue boy from Hidden Valley Ski Area chairlift | Green Bay Press Gazette | greenbaypressgazette.com

GIBSON — A boy hanging from a ski lift 25 feet above the ground was safely caught by a group of people below him, a witness said Monday.

The boy was seen about 2:45 p.m. Sunday hanging from a chair on the lift at Hidden Valley Ski Area in Manitowoc County, according to witness Matt Roeser of Green Bay.

Roeser, who was inside a ski lodge, heard the commotion. A group had formed under the boy as he dangled from the lift. The ski lift was shut down during the rescue.

"They figured the best way to save him from being injured was for him to let go and they catch him," Roeser said. The boy then fell into the arms of those below and was not injured. "The people on the ground were really heroes. They really came and rushed out there to offer help."

The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department had no reports of the incident. The owners of the ski hill could not be reached for comment.
