HUNTSVILLE -- An incident at Snowbasin resort Tuesday has skiers and snowboarders up in arms about the alleged harassment of two Layton snowboarders by resort officials.
A recording of the incident shows the Layton men being stopped on a slope by two resort officials. One official threatened to take the snowboarders' passes for moving too quickly on a "slow" run. The snowboarders argued that they were on a main run rather than a bunny slope and that they were not warned about their speed beforehand.
"There is a slow sign up there, and this is a slow-skiing zone," the official said.
He told the pair multiple times to "shut your … mouths," using an expletive many find offensive.
"Wow, that is not … this is a little ridiculous," one of the snowboarders said. "You're harassing us because we're young."

"I've never been harassed like this at another mountain," he later said, adding that directing expletives at the pair "was way too far."
The official apologized to the pair, and Snowbasin later posted on Facebook about the incident, saying they "are frankly embarrassed by this situation and have taken measures to prevent this type of incident occurring in the future."
The apology garnered hundreds of comments after it was posted Wednesday afternoon, with some saying it was not a true apology and many wondering what measures the company had taken to prevent similar incidents.
"Loyal customers deserve to know what measures have been taken," commented Rocky Bingham, a Harrisville resident.
The resort's posting did not negate the actions of the employees, according to some.
"It's unfortunate because it was only two of its employees in particular, but they reflect the company as a whole … this is unacceptable and clearly reflects poor management and attitude of Snowbasin as a company," commented Trevor Jackson, a student at the University of Utah.
Others, though, put faith in the resort and pointed out that the official apologized for his language.

"I am sure proper employee coaching and customer recover efforts are underway," commented Ogden resident Mike Brice. "No need to skewer a great community institution."
Many commenters pointed out that the incident will serve as an important lesson in public relations, as technology and the exploding use of social media has led to the video of the engagement going viral in the 24 hours since it was first posted. The two videos of the incident were viewed almost 50,000 times in the day following the first posting.

Snowbasin could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Stupid, stupid kids...Cuts in front of a ski schooler way too close, right uphill of a 5-6 year old child...clueless kids...
IF he would had left more room, (or showed more control of his board) or had the attitude the he had at the end of the video at first, he would of never got his pass pulled.
The troller went too far also.

I have to disagree, the uphill instructor was stopped and the kid was 20 to 30 foot downhill. Could the kid of used a little better judgement, yes, but was he out of line no. The patroller should be fired after talking to some kids that way. Snow basin is a fairly high end resort and guests should not be treated in such a manor. If the kids would have started of cursing then fine, but not out of the gate like that.

Any resort personal at any resort would have had a talk with the kid, making an abrupt turn within 2 feet of an employee, stupid stupid kid. The troller did apologize...BUT his friend had reason to interrupt either...
I enjoy snowbasin and have been there numerous times, however, if this troller behavior is tolerated ( even with an apology) I won't be going back. Having a talk with a kid is one thing but dropping the f bomb at a kid regardless of his questionable decision making should be grounds for instant termination.

Everyone is so sensitive these days...
Not sensitive, it's the fact that customers don't pay big bucks to have their kids cursed at. I manage 50 people and I would have handed the patroller an application to McDonald's and canned his butt, and have done so numerous times where I work. Customers are paying for a service and word of mouth is the best advertising agent you can get, go read snowbasin's Facebook page and tell me how their management's statement has worked out for them.

I am not seeing the big issue that the instructor or the patroller had, yeah the kid may have gotten a little close to the stopped skier but nothing I saw was at all blatant. Sure it might be designated a slow run but it didn't appear that he was going fast, he certainly appeared in control, and the run looked to be pretty empty. He wasn't weaving in and out of a crowd. All in all, no big deal. On the other hand the instructor and patroller were defintiley over the top in their reaction. I think this is an occassion of these guys deciding to throw some weight around and be jerks to a couple of younger kids who they thought were easy targets. Regardless of the kids infraction their reaction was unwarranted and the patroller at least should have a stiff penalty for it. I would never let an employee speak that way to a guest NO MATTER WHAT. The staff has to stay professional. Snow basins staff didn't.

If they weren't fired, they should be. Since there's video evidence of both what the patroller said and what the boarder did (nothing obviously worthy of getting his pass pulled) this is a huge black eye for a nice quiet resort that usually stays out of the news. From a PR standpoint, they should have come down harder on Facebook and said they fired the patrollers to stop the firestorm of negative comments. Not what any service-oriented business should tolerate, especially one with a happy sun as its logo
