Im fascinated with the old Iron Mountain ski resort in Ca.. I heard the lodge burned down recently.. any one heard how and when? anyone have pics from there? I wonder how owns the place, last time I was there in 2007 someone was putting a new roof on the lodge and fixing it up..

yeah that would be great Id like to go with ya.. Im about an hour away when you going to head up there? Id love to go with someone who has some insight on lifts and we can trek around.. Any info on the fire or whats going on up there with the place? thanks!!

wow great pics last time I was up there it looked totally diff its really been vandalized alot since 2006-07.. Who owns this now I know the forest service took the use permit away but it seems like someone was fixing it up when i was there alot is gone now.. the tank and generator was there and the trailer was in a diff spot.. any info on what they plan on doing with it? so sad to see this place just sit like this.. is the lifts still there on the ground? I know they had some extras they never installed

From what I know is that it sounds like it may be banked owned.

I visited Iron Mountain back in 2004 when the ski area still had a caretaker. He informed me that in July (2004), the property went into foreclosure and could have been picked up for only $500,000. The only organization that was using the property was the State Police for training purposes.

In 2006, it was mentioned here on the forum that the caretaker was killed in a motorcycle accident and apparently the owner (most likely still the bank) decided not to find a replacement. There really isn't much to watch over when the majority of the assets have been removed and there is no chance for the ski area to ever reopen with the permit has been yanked.

Neat place, but it could never compete in the ski market in Lake Tahoe.

The "Bruin" lift looks like a midwest fixer-upper
