White Pine Ski Area will not operate this coming ski season according to the community group, Citizens to Save White Pine who purchased the ski area from Wind River Resort Inc last October.

White Pine is plagued by small community that's not large enough to support its operations and reported just over 16,000 skier visits this past season.

It's last day of operations will be October 1, 2011.

White Pine is open again this season and I checked it out today. It's being run by a nonprofit group called Citizens to Save White Pine. There is a cool old rope tow that doesn't appear to have run for awhile. It's a nice little hill but I would not be surprised to see it close again.

That double-triple does look impressive. I think that's the only double-lift west of the Mississippi, am I right?

Nope, there are some in California. Snow Valley, Mountain High, maybe others.
