Last night I was stuck at Sierra because of a missing snowboarder. He disappeared around 12:30 his friends said when they last saw him before he fell down on a ski run in the Westbowl area. His brother didn't tell ski patrol until the resort closed after 4:00pm. The search was on. Search and Rescue teams were there by around 7:00pm. The search was called off at 8:30 due to no visibility and it was to late and to cold. Went back this morning search and rescue was still there. There was a bigger hunt going on and there was a helicopter searching from above. A few minutes before noon he was found in a tree well with a few inches of snow on top of him.

EL DORADO COUNTY, CA - One man is dead after he disappeared Saturday night while snowboarding.
According to El Dorado County public information officer Bryan Golmitz, 22-year-old Phillip Walker was snowboarding with his brother and some friends when he disappeared near the Sierra at Tahoe Resort. El Dorado County officials searched the area until dark and continued early Sunday morning. At that point there were 60 searchers in the area.
At about 11:50 am, searchers found Walker dead in a tree wall, covered in several inches of snow. Golmitz said the initial investigation suggests Walker hit the tree, but it's not clear if the impact of hitting the tree or the cold weather caused his death.

It happens. We had a kid from California fall in a creek and drown on Christmas eve.
Incidents like this happen from time to time. But the end result is very sad if the person isn't found alive. Earlier that morning before he was missing another person got lost on the back side and the condition's were so bed he lost hes sense of direction and his friend, kept on walking and got tired. He had avalanche gear with him so he dug him self a snow cave and was able to get enough cell service to call 911 and they could GPS track his location. He made it out alive
