They look to be new lifts. Here is an article I just found and it also talks about how Vail Resorts is also going to install a gondola and they are cutting that lift line this summer it looks like too. Oh and the name of one of the new express quads is going to be called, "Upper Beaver Creek Mountain Express."

It's difficult to fully understand where the Beaver Creeks lifts are going without a map but I get the idea that the lower lift is connecting the Town of Avon, at the mouth of the "canyon" that leads up the base of Beaver Creek, to the ridge to the east of the Bachelor Gulch development and the upper lift then connects Bach Gulch to the top of the Strawberry Lift. I think the lower lift is a way for folks to park at the intercept parking lot and get on a lift without having to ride a shuttle bus up to the Beaver Ck village. Anyone else have a clearer picture of what's going on here?

That's a long way from the town of Avon all the way to the base. But it would certainly be more fun than riding a shuttle bus. I guess that would be the gondola...Maybe if we're lucky that one will end above the village, on the snow, so we don't have to ride those stupid escalators (if you havent tried to ride an escalator in ski boots- my brother was coming down the top escalator at BC and got flipped up by the stair above as his stair moved down- 21 stitches- at least it was on the 2nd last day)
The other lift would avoid a very long, very boring catwalk to get back from the Bachelor Gulch area back to Strawberry Park Express- very good thing

You think Beaver Creek is bad? You should check out Zermatt. It took me like 12 minutes to walk from the train station to the gondola. It would have taken longer if I wasn't in ski boots. However, there are taxi cab carts that you can take, but they cost money.

There has been talk on the radio about trying to augment (but not completely replace) the shuttle system from Avon up to BC, so I would imagine those guesses are correct. As it stands now, there are several lots scattered around the mouth of the canyon south of Avon. My guess is that the gondola would start from the one nearest Avon Road, for ease of access.

info from a freind on these two lifts. At first they where going to be a gondola system but the town of avon was not willing to pay for any part of it. The system was to start in front of the Four Seasons just on the other side of the railroad tracks. from this point, section one, would have traveld to a point east of the enteranc to Gachlors gulch (right accross the road from the bustop to the Tarns) section two, whent up from there to the north east edge of Bachlor gulch village. section three, was to go from the village to the top of strawberry park exp. Then a final secton down to Bever Creek was planned. Since avon got out of the deal, vail scaled back the system to the section two and three alingments and made the lifts quads verses 15 passanger gondolas to save money.
