I thought I share with you about 17th Winter Deaflympics 2011 in Vysoké Tatry (ski resort name), Slovakia on February 18 to 26, 2011. It was notified to canceled by The International Committee of Deaf Sports (ICSD) on Friday, February 11, 2011. Because of comprehensive failure of local organizers to deliver also there was no money fund. Over 700 athletes, coaches and officials who was planning to attend the 2011 Winter Deaflympcis were shocking and angry. They lost their money for funds, travel costs, food, hotels, etc. Sad news.
One of the athletes is my friend named Jeff Pollock. He is racing snowboarding (fast speed). I felt bad for him and his coach, Will Garrow and three interpreters Rachel Johnson, Rebecca Halls, and Clint Behunina (see webiste : http://www.usdeaflym...s/jeff-pollock/ )
President of the Slovakian Deaflympics Committee, Mr. Jaromir Ruda, who is hard of hearing and his family are deaf, made a fraud and stole the money from Deaflympics Funds, hid and tried to fled into Hungary. The police arrested him.
16th Winter Deaflympcis 2007 held in Salt Lake City, Utah and it was successful.
18th Winter Deaflympcis 2015 will be held in Vancouver, Canada on February 6 to 15, 2015. Hope it will NOT be happened to be cancellion.
