Hi everyone. Its been a while since I've been on here. I got married to the love of my life last August. She is amazing! I was living up in Clear Creek County, CO 15 minutes from Loveland Valley/Basin ski area. My wife was working in Summit County in the heart of ski country. I figured I should try to get a job up there and stop commuting to SE Denver, an hour drive.
I wanted to get into building maintenance or lift maintenance and only the larger resorts had openings for those positions. My background is building maintenance and construction but I like lifts better! I applied many times at Winter Park, Copper, Breck, and Keystone. I kept getting the typical "While your resume is impressive, we have found a more suitable applicant..." Yada, yada. No big deal, keep looking.
I was used to those emails but applied for a lift mech and was emailed back to set up a phone interview with a Talent Aquistion Guide with Keystone. Long story short, she called, said she'd pass my info to the hiring manager and that was the last I heard from them. Tried reaching the hiring department by email and it came back undeliverable. Left a few voicemails with the hiring manager but nothing.
Anyway, now I'm living in Denver. Once the wife and I get some bills taken care of and such, and when our apartment lease is about up, I will look again for the 2011/2012 season.
I was busy last fall building a model funifor. Its not to scale but it operates true to real life. At least the drive and cabin differential sheaves do. Go to youtube.com and type in "Funifor Trip", "Funifor Top", "Funifor Bottom". I am on my Blackberry, otherwise I would link them. I have new vids but need to upload to youtube still.
Thanks for reading!

Nick-
You have found that the internet is a dead end street.
Get off your a**, go to some of the areas, and meet the Manager of the department you want to work for. At least you will have some eyeball rejection.

Dino, you're correct. I should go meet some of the managers. It can't hurt! But even if I was offered a job I couldn't take it now unless I could afford it. Cost of living in Summit is higher and the lift mech job is $4 less per hour than what I'm making now; granted I just passed 7 years. We just moved in a month ago, too, a half mile from my work (building engineer).
Well, I am going up to Keystone Friday to see my groomer friend's new Prinoth 'cat! Maybe I will try to get my foot in the door then!

I can tell you that (like most large areas, I'm sure) your application to Copper goes to HR first. If it gets passed on to the actual department it may be a bit. Definitely talk to people in person, they remember you more clearly that way when they read your application. I know it's not lifts, but we have a fairly large building department-- maybe there's a start?

Lift Mech, I did apply at Copper for a few different building maint positions. No luck. I will check them out this summer. I presume you work at Copper? Do you know Alex W, a lift mech at Copper? He is a schoolmate from Iowa. We both moved out here at different times/reasons but got in contact with him on Facebook. He has been kind enough to answer some job-related questions for me also.

Vail Resorts emailed me back wanting me to schedule a phone interview for Base Equipment Operator. I filled out the app in October. In November they put the job application process on hold. Three days ago they say they're interested. Pay is DOE.
Only problem is I live in Denver now. 1.5 hours from Keystone. Son of a... It figures!

When I worked for Crystal Mountain in Washington for two years, I commuted, which was in anywhere from 1-1/2 hours to 3 hours (depending on the weather) each way. If you really want to work at the mountain, you'll make it happen. And then again, you can do this for awhile and if it looks like something you want to do, then you can relocate later.
