What are supposed to be the advantages of the LPA grip? Nice looking lift, and a big improvement for Vail.

I think they're just trying something new. Kind of like when they scrapped the TB grip in favour of the Omega.

Dino-- looks like you guys went back to the all-steel traction plate? Or am I not seeing the plastic 'treadmill'?

I got to ride the lift myself today. I observed and counted that the lift has 117 very nice looking chairs, and 20 towers, the same number of towers as the old lift. It's the first lift at Vail to feature the European Multix footrest, and the fourth lift in Colorado with it (behind the Panoramic Express at Winter Park, the Sheer Bliss lift at Snowmass, and the Revelation lift at Telluride). The LPA grips are also a nice change from the Omega grip. The lower terminal did look like it was still receiving some finishing touches.

It looks like LP also changed the shape of the terminal skin (curved toward the bottom). It's definitely a nice touch. Does anyone know if this newer design will be used on all of their future lifts?

Well it most certainly isn't the case on Black Mountain Express, its sister at A-Basin which uses the older style terminal design as well as the Omega-T grip. I'd like to see if any of the other detachables this year have the new designs.

Sorry, I missed this one.
Yes, the new traction plate on the LPA grip is steel - no plastic "treadmill".

A bit of confusion here. The lifts may be sisters, but they are not twins. A-Basin has the older terminal with the Omega grip and Vail has the new terminal design that will be used going forward with the LPA grip.

Are those normally plastic? Or is Leitner and Doppelmayr doing steel now? Also is Seel better? It seems like it would last longer.

Thanks,

No, they are normally steel. liftmech was refering to a plastic piece that was attached to the top of the POMA Omega traction plate.

As far as I know High Noon is the first one to feature both designs. L-P only has one other project for a detachable lift listed on their site that hasn't been finished yet, so I suppose that one could be using the new designs too, but it seems unlikely.

I don't normally work on the Omegas, but I've seen that their treadmills are getting worn and I imagine will have to start being replaced. The all-steel ones on the TB series don't wear, I just have to weld them from time to time. Thus my question. These new ones also look like they won't collect snow as fast as either of the old styles

I thought I might add this as an interesting note. Vail also is promoting the High Noon Express lift as an alternative route of returning to the Front Side from Blue Sky Basin. This sign was at the top of the Teacup Express lift:
