While swapmeets are fun, gearboxes, and motors, and such are large, heavy, and hard to transport to a central location, plus who has time for such ancient practices! So here's introducing a more up to date version... The Skilifts.org Swapmeet (virtual that is) for anything and everything running around that's collecting dust and rust in your boneyard...

The idea of this thread is for ski areas to post what they have that they are interested in getting rid of... Specifically, smaller things, or long lists of things that would be difficult, or just unwieldy to post a bunch of classified listings for each item in their own thread. The idea here is one central thread for misc stuff... So you have three Yan 20" sheaves you don't need? You have 15 Heron Poma Double Chairs? etc etc etc... The idea is this is the thread of the misc, where hopefully people can find the bits, pieces, and parts that they need, and others can find buyers for their unused parts, bits, and pieces. In other words, are you selling a lift? Probably should go in it's own thread, but bits and pieces can find their home here...

For organizational purposes and so that this thread remains largely uncluttered I'm thinking it may be best if each person puts their listings in only one post. That way by updating one post, instead of posting a new one each time your boneyard changes, the thread is easier to browse, and it's easier to see what is available, and what is gone...

I know some folks are probably a bit busy to manage this sort of thing (ie keep an eye on their listings) so if it would help I'd readily volunteer to list and manage your boneyard listing if that would be easier for you... Also that way you can remain anonymous if that is desired, (don't know what the advantage to that might be, but if it's desired that is an option...)



So, what's in your boneyard? What do you have that is just rusting away that you'd love to get some cash for instead of sending it off to the scrappers? Here's the place to post your ski area's boneyard and see if you can find some other folks that are looking for stuff you have...

Also since this is a bit of a new experiment if anyone has any suggestions, comments, hate mail, death threats, anything and everything in terms of input is greatly appreciated. This will be a bit of a work in progress at first so any suggestions you might have feel free to post, PM, or what ever communicative form is most convenient...

A post is only editable for a short time - after that, the option disappears. We'd have to get Bill to change that.

That's a good question... While I certainly think that using software driven for general classifieds is probably the absolute best answer, and will work very well, I'm not sure for bits and pieces sorts of things that it will work as well... Ie, let's say a resort has 20 SLI sheaves, 10 Dopp triple chairs, a bullwheel for a Stadeli rope tow, and a set of tracks for a Tucker snow cat... Do they list each one individually? Or do they have one listing for all of them? I don't know the answer but I'm sure if we start kicking ideas around we'll come up with something that'll work well...

Agreed... I think Emax is right, we can see how it works, if it even does, and then go from there... Might as well not worry too much about it if we don't even know if it'll go anywhere...

To get this started folks what you can do to update your listings is just when you post a new updated listing of your boneyard we'll delete your old post, or at least put a note on it that it's been updated...

So - where are we at with this? Are you going to open a dedicated topic area? Is Bill going to allow continual editing?

I'd like to begin my listing and then subtract from it as items are claimed or sold. That way, each participating member would have just one list that is updated over time. Seems to me that would work.

Rather than just list things on a forum, it would be great to have a data base with the parts arranged logically and which could be searched by manufacturer, part name, location, etc.

But that's in an ideal world, where you would have lots of time and resources to put that data base together.

I agree, a database would be the absolute best... But for now let's see if this all works in the forum format...

Should we start a new thread or just stay in this one? Regardless of what you decide we can always throw things around from a mod standpoint so feel free to throw your posts in this thread and we can go from there if people would prefer a new clean one, and anyone who wants to throw their listing up go ahead...

The way we'll do it for right now is simply post your boneyard listing... Then if something sells or you want to add something copy and paste your last post into a new one, add or delete what you need to, and then a mod will delete your old post as to keep the thread neat and clean.
