Let me rephrase that, 57% of all airliner orders are for 777s.

I think that you mean 57% of all airliner orders for that size of aircraft. I don't think that the 777 is more popular than the 737 and A320 combined.

No, I mean that @ this current moment 57% of all orders for existing planes are for the 777.

So currently out of all planes currently being ordered 57% are for the 777. So do you mean that if 100 planes are bought then 57 of them are 777's? That's nuts, where did you find that?

That's not possible. Not even 57% of all orders for Boeing planes are 777s. Of all planes ordered, that would have to be over 2000 airplanes (ballpark, I'm not really sure). There haven't even been 1000 orders for the 777 in history, maybe not veen for the entire 777 size category that it shares with the Airbus A330 and A340

I checked on the Boeing website and in 2004 there were 42 ordered planes for the 777 and a total of 277 ordered planes. That's just over 1/7 of all Boeing planes ordered, and that doesn't include Airbus.

Whoops, big mistake, 27% of all orders. I found that in the Airliners.net forum. It's apparently been edited by now.

That's still a lot, considering Boeing has only sold around 500. What time frame are we looking at? I just don't think that those numbers are reasonable.

Two new big orders for Boeing (its turning out to be a great year)

Boeing Confirms Deal with Ryanair for up to 140 Next-Generation 737s
SEATTLE, Feb. 24, 2005
-- Boeing [NYSE:BA] today confirmed it has reached agreement with Ryanair for the airline's purchase of 70 additional Boeing 737-800 airplanes, with options for up to 70 more airplanes, in one of the largest orders for the Next-Generation 737. The value of the agreement for the 70 firm airplanes is 4.6 billion USD at list prices. The total value of the deal if all options are exercised is $9.2 billion. The agreement is subject to the approval of Ryanair shareholders this Spring.

Malaysia Airlines, hot on the heels of the Ryanair order (see above), is expected to order up to 60 737-800s with the first to be delivered later this year. Insiders told ATWOnline that the purchase should be announced shortly. If confirmed, it would be a stunning reversal for Airbus, which had been tipped to pick up the order.--Geoffrey Thomas

That is about 70% of the number of planes that Boeing got last year already. Hopefully this year will be a bit better.

2 more 7E7's for Icelander. Boeing is having an amazing year in terms of orders and this may be the year they repass Airbus in orders. I don't know if the ANA that ordered the 50 7E7's is the same as the ANA who owns that resort my hunch is no.

Yes, I think that Boeing will do very well in sales this year compared to last year. The 787 should do well, but I don't think the U.S. airlines will be ordering a bunch.

Is that out of just Boeing? That would make sense, although it still seems a little high.

Okay, then. IF you think about it 17% doesn't seem that high, especially since that Boeing currenly only makes 5 commercial planes, but that also includes the 787. Also, what time peroid are we talking? Forever, the last year, etc.

It was 57% in January of last year (as I am just finding out). The A380 and 787 didn't have many orders then. It only lasted for about 2 weeks. Oh and by the way, some moderator @ Airliners.net changed the post to: In January of '04. Sorry about that.

Boeing has gotten some more news. There has been an order by Air France for 4 more 777-300LRs. The article is here.

Also, the 777-200LR made its first flight today, and it appears that these planes will be delivered in January of 2006. There is an article on that here.
