I found this on the Doppelmayr website.
The Schoolyard Express at Mammoth appears to have six-pack terminals despite the fact that it is a high-speed quad.

Anyone know the reason for this? Possibly for a future upgrade to a six-pack?

Here's a pic. It's a Doppelmayr CTEC model UNI-GS.

Yes, you are correct that it's designed to be upgraded to a six-pack at a later date.

Wouldn't it be simpler/less expensive overall to install it with the six-seater chairs from the beginning rather than having to pay for both the quad and six-person chairs by installing them both?

They may do this to be able to advertise for one new life to two. Dragging it out at a smaller cost to spike interest. Who knows, the general public may believe it's a whole new lift!

I would guess that it had nothing to do with Mammoth but rather Doppelmayr CTEC had extra supply of six pack terminals and substituted them in on a hsq.
