I agree there is no point to eight-packs, just build a gondola.

An 8-pack also puts a ton of people on the mountain at one time. Many resorts don't want that. It would be interesting to see one though

Oh, I put funitels and gondolas on different designations but I know that the funitel @ squaw is a 28 person, why didn't they just make it a 30 seater?

Possibly the same reason that the 737 can only hold 189 passengers. Government regulations don't ussually round to the nearest ten or hundred so I would imagine that the funitel's passenger numbers are directly proportionate to the exits (same as on airplanes) and that is why it can only hold 28 people.

THe funitel holds 28 people ONLY if the benches are folded up. THey dont fill them anywhere near full anyways, so they dont really need 30. THe most i think ive had is maybe 15 or so, but usually its comfortable.

That is called a tri-cable gondola. It's like a cross between a tram, funi, and gondola. It's got funi-size cabins, a continuous loop system like a gondola, and 3 cables (one drive, 2 tracks) like a tram. There's a bit about them on doppelmayr.com

I have to say the tram cables make sense cause the towers look really simalar to the ones on the tram at Snowbird.
