The footings are pretty much done on both sides of the mtn. The towers should be flying into place next week if everything goes as rumored. The towers for both lifts are all assembled and laying in the parking lot.

Looks like they're tearing down the patrol shack there at the bottom? Will there be a new one, or is that it?

The ski patrol shack is still there, just the apartment and rental shop were torn down. I hear the ski patrol shack might not be around to many more years though.

Nice shot of "rotor blade lag" in that first picture!

Is that due to the scanning action of the image sensor in the camera, or do the blades really bend like that?

Like those? I have a friend of mine that lives by Alpental and he was off the other day and went over and snapped those.

Actually a combination of the two.
In picture 1 it is exaggerated because the camera speed is slow. If it was fast it would freeze the blade straight and there would be an absence of motion.
Picture 2 is more realistic. The blade will lag behind while it "works" and the opposite blade will actually flex forward. The flex and lag occurs at the flexible rotor head, not in the blade itself.

The Hidden Valley lift haul rope was installed last week and is being tensioned is what I had heard. Front side they finally got the engine room installed last week along with the final tower (#3) and the haul rope is going on during this blizzard. I hear testing is suppose to take place Dec 10 and I'm sure they are shooting for a Christmas holiday weekend for opening for the area.

I don't think they were able to get all the piles of trees on the steeper runs burned before the snow fell so some of those runs should be interesting.

The Hidden Valley chair was finally opened last weekend after many problems.....the final one being the motor had to be removed, sent away to be fixed and re-installed. Both chairs are now officially operational!
