Today we went up to DV. There was hardly anything going on with the two new lifts (I guess because it's sunday, but there wasnt even any parts lying around or anything) I could see where the top terminal of the Judge lift will be. The Quincy bottom terminal is still in its old spot from what I could see but the line is not going through the terminal. It seems like it's tied down somewhere around the 4th tower, because there are chairs on one side of the line above that but there is no haul rope on the bottom few towers. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of action yet at the top of the Silver Strike line (top of Flagstaff mtn, where 3 other HSQs unload)

Instead of posting the relocation of the lower terminal of the Quincy Express, I decided to turn it into a page since I was going to do that anyway.

I'll try to get the First Time lift at PCMR up tomorrow or something.

Do they have a master plan, or do they just go along and add stuff as they please? If the new lift was planned a lot earlier, it seems like they wouldn't have had all the trouble of relocating the lift. I guess since its a private resort, they can do as they please.

I often wonder the same thing myself. In their defence (as well as most other resorts) skiing demographics have changed considerably since the original master plan was put together. High speed lifts, different needs/tastes etc. have all conspired to render orignial plans obsolete.
I've see many resorts install, then remove/re-align lifts. The worst, and most agravating ones are when you see some lift moved/taken out just a few years after it was installed. Cresent at PCMR, Ruby @ DV and Red Hawk (twice!) @ The Canyons coem to mind.

Today we went up to Brighton. I had completely forgotten that they were replacing the Majestic lift with what looks like a CTEC FGQ. The terminal seemed to be the Invader style from the back, but on the sides it didn't have the windows and slope down. It was boarded up and vertical. I'm thinking that the sides of the terminal are put on later, anybody know any more? Anyway, the drive terminal was out in the parking lot and it so were some pieces of the tension terminal. The line gear was the CTEC type. About 8 towers were lying out in the parking lot without the crossarms on yet. Some of them were green and the others were gray. Strange. All the old Riblet center-pole double chairs were lying neatly in the parking lot from the old lift. There are a few sawed-off Riblet towers on the mountain, and they were in the process of digging and pouring the new footings. There were a few guys working on the towers in the parking lot, I couldn't really see what they were doing.

First Time at PCMR was installed in 1997, I think. That's not too long a life for a lift either. And Raptor at The Canyons. They installed it to replace a Riblet double but left the double there, and then moved it 5 years later and started using the Riblet double again

Actually, the new Majestic lift at Brighton is the old Ruby FG Quad that was at Deer Valley. It would be interesting to know where the First Time lift will end up though? Maybe Park City will relocate it to some other area on the moutain in the near future.

Really? Nice. That would explain why the colors are different than on other Brighton lifts.
Maybe PCMR can use it to replace one of the older doubles like Ski Team or Thaynes, or the Pinecone Ridge lift that Powdr mentioned

Today at PCMR (I went on the Alpine Slide, thats so fun) there wasn't much to see around First time. The towers are there with the sheaves going in every direction. There as a backhoe digging a nice deep hole at the bottom, and there were a bunch of piles of dirt around the top terminal. It looked like the anchor block for the tension tower was there. The strange thing is that they have not yet removed the old FGT tension tower. Is there any way that it could be used for the new lift?
Anyway, I'm leaving for home tomorrow, flying from Salt Lake thru Atlanta to West Palm, the usual (for free!) (and when I get home, I get to have my dads laptop in my room :D )
PS it looks like the bright blue coil springs on PayDay were replaced by new black ones in the last few months
I asked the guy at the top of the Alpine Slide if he knew anything else about the First time replacement, and he said that he hadn't noticed they were doing anything to it and seemed surprised when i pointed it out. Figures

The Sweeney Bros have indeed been planning this a long time. The land has been in their family for decades, and they were thinking about a hotel/lodge around the town chair before it went in (early 80's). The plan has morphed over the years into the latest incarnation. I think they have lacked the $$ to do this project, so they had to sex it up for the developers/finaciers to go along. In terms of timing, it is too late to get started this year, as final permits have yet to be issued, so I suspect it may start next year and last several more years before complete.
