Any one have any newER lifts they don't like and older ones they love?

At Killington I absolotely LOVE the Glades triple. Its a really old Heron triple, but it serves some great trails and its a pretty short ride. For some reason (does'nt happen much) I have sorta accepted and liked the fact that the paint on all the towers is nearly all fallen off and cracked. Gives it some character :P Also, the lift dudes on the triple are always extremely freindly and tell about women they are looking for on the daily report whiteboard at the bottom of the lift.

A newer lift I hate is the Ramshead express quad at Killington. Express Quad? It's so slow!

Yea I've been meaning to ask about that....

What's so popular about Lowell Thomas? The Gondola, Lowell Thomas, and TGV are the lifts at tremblant that are ALWAYS OPEN, early season to closing. I'm surprised theres not a new poma high speed quad there, I mean I services a good amount terrain. So why's it so 'famous'?

What i did think was funny about it was loading. Tremblant feels as if (And i have NO problem with this) that they have to paint and upgrade everything till its perfect. (I have not been on west but this is the first time I've seen it) Tremblant has the ski carpets on it like on high speed quads, it is painted and looks exactly identical (including the towers if I'm not mistaken) to the other lifts at Tremblant. What's funny is that the loading err..ramp is about 2 feet off the ground and there is a short french guy who is no taller than my waste who grabs the chair when it's coming down and hangs on to it for dear life as it round the bull wheel so that it hit's my fanny nice and soft

I havent ridden too many old lifts, but id say Chair 5 at dodge has to be my favorite. Its really comfortable and the unload station is classic. Check out the pictures on the main site.

These aren't really considered old, but the old Doppelmayr HSQs at Vail, and the old Highline double, are more exciting than the pre-stealth CTECs

I love all old lifts.

I hate all 6 packs, too many people on one chair, unsocial, just build a damn gondi so you can hear everyone on board.

I have to agree, the glades triple is a great chair. I love the anticipation of those first turns over there in october!

Funny how people's opinions differ... I like Timberline; I think it's neat how WP's maintenance department rebuilt it in-house and converted the drive terminal into what it is today. Plus I like old Herons (no, it's not a Yan) so it scores points that way.

Other old lifts I like:
C-2 @ Alpental (1967 Riblet centre-pole double)
Mystery Peak @ Seymour (mid-60s Murray-Latta double)
Sky Chair @ Cypress (Mueller?)
Older Riblet lifts in general

only reason why i do not like it is because of the 20 mins to 1 1/2 hour lift lines on timberline.

Here is Australia at my home resort we have a couple of old surface lift pomas that I love. Particularly the 1969 built International Poma. It has lost a bit since they put an electric drive on it - the old Dodge V10 was a ripper with line speeds around 5m/s.

But then there's a CTEC quad from 1999 (fixed grip) that just doesn't have any character - it is just a boring lift that stops a lot.

Ouch. The only time I've been able to ski it was a pretty slow day- only about five minutes. I see your point.

Powdr, the Headwall chair isnt all gone, its drive terminal still sits there waiting for some action that just maybe someday it might get.

Also, about the weasel chair, was it an up and over? Does it follow the same line as Hot Wheels? Ive been wondering about that since noticed on the map that it went down by lakeview and sherwood.

Here is what is left of the Headwall Chair. You can see the new express and C-2 in the background.

I wonder why Squaw doesn't sell its lifts that are in use? Seems kind of dumb if you ask me if it can get some extra cash.

Riding up the funitel in spring, the mountain is extra messy. You can see old tower foundations from all the old gondolas, lift terminals, and near the bottom an actual tower minus the cap just sitting by an old rotting house near the creek. Squaw should really take action soon and clean up the mess.
