You never know what people will have on their front porch. Turns out, these friends of ours have a cabin from the old Skyway Gondola at Keystone. I was pretty excited to say the least and I took a couple pictures.

One more interesting thing, the cabin had a hatch in the top, I guess for a vent. It looks to small for a person to climb through.

Old gondolas and chairlift chairs crop up in the most unlikely places, I know a cafe that has one on it's front verandah.

Here's a picture of an abandoned gondola at Mt Hotham. The trouble is Hotham has never had a gondola lift.
They bought the Dopplemayr cabin from another resort (Mt Buller), painted it in their own colours and dumped it on one of their beginners runs to make it appear that Hotham had a better lift network than it does. Posted Image It's doubly silly because Hotham mostly has black runs and the sort of people that ski black runs aren't going to be impressed by a marooned gondola on a beginners run.

That's misleading advertising if ever I saw it. Posted Image

That poor purple gondola looks like it is made from real thin sheet metal..

Poor thing, it must be lonely. It's marooned 100 km away from the nearest gondola cabin.

I know the resort that originally bought these Doppelmayr gondolas wasn't happy with them and replaced the cabins after a few years.

It does look rather flimsy in the photo above, but it looks marginally more solid from the other side.
