Unknown Mueller skilifts in North America

seilbahnbilder.ch's Photo seilbahnbilder.ch 20 Feb 2010

I got some pictures from Rowema, the follower enterprise of Mueller Lifts!

There are a few pictures from North America, especially BC, Canada, that show skilifts which are unknown to me. Maybe someone can help me to identify the skilifts!

Lift 2:

Accourding to a note on the backside, this is Grouse Mountain. So this can only show the Inferno Chair built in 1976, right?

Lift No. 3:

Unfortunately I cant make out what's written on the backside of these two pictures... something like "Tillman Valley" or so. But I can identify "Vernon", an I think this means Vernon BC. Could this be Silver Star Mountain in its early days?

Lift No. 4:

There is no note on the backside an you can't see the landscape, so I have no idea where this lift could be/have been. Powder Chair at Big White is similar but not identical. What's about Tee Pee Town at Banff?

Lift No. 6:

On the backside is written that this picture was taken at Mount Norquay (Banff), but according to Lift-World.info there is no Mueller double any more. Who knows the Name of this chairlift?

I don't even know whether this Mueller gondola was in North America or not, but the background remembers me a little bit to Vanouver Island?

Ok, I got some information in a german speaking forum!

1: Might be Blue Chair at Silver Star Mountain, BC, Canada.

2: Inferno Chair at Grouse Mountain, BC, Canada.

3: Tillcum Valley Chair at Tillcum Valley, BC, Canada.

4 & 5: Tee Pee Chair at Sunshine Village

8: Mount Sainte Anne Gondola, Quebec, Canada.

So I still need some information about lift 6 and 7!

I've been waiting for others to respond to this thread, because I don't want to hijack it.

But I have a quick question:

Was Mueller the only chairlift manufacturer that made their towers from steel lattice rather than poles?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm slowly expanding my listing of all Australian ski lifts to include manufacturers. I have photos of a number of chairlifts with lattice towers from the 1950's and 60's, but no information on the manufacturer. If Mueller was the only company with this type of tower, then I can assume that they were all Mueller chairlifts.

The list of every Australian ski lift is here: http://wikiski.com/w...i_tow_directory

A picture of one of the chairlifts of unknown make:

^^ This "portal-tower" is without any doubt made by Müller/Mueller! But the "weehls" (what's the appropriate name?)are Riblet. But the chairs are Mueller again.

Posted Image
^^ The towers look like Riblet, the Chairs are Mueller.

^^ This one here is definitly not a Mueller, I guess it is a Carlevaro (Italian manufacturer).

Maybe you can identify this lift here:

That's another unknown Mueller chairlift. But the vegetation remembers me strongly to Australia!

And now back to your question:

That might be right in America but definitly not in Europe. In their early days, almost all manufacturers were using "lattice towers"...

Some examples:

Thanks. The two colour postcards are pictures of the Crackenback chairlift at Thredbo. It was built in 1958 and extended further up the mountain in 1962. That probably explains the different type of towers at the top and bottom of the same lift.

^ Posted Image The trees in your picture are certainly snowgums, so that means it is in Australia. \the buildings and landscape look like Thredbo in the late 1950's, but it could be the early 1960's. I think it's the Crackenback chairlift or the nearby Ramshead chairlift. I will look at old books and photos and post here if it's not Ramshead.

Details of both the Thredbo lifts are here. http://wikiski.com/w...rectory#Thredbo

By the way. Some early Australian chairlifts were supported wooden poles. Posted Image Here are two pictures of a 1950's chairlift at Falls Creek ski resort.

It wasn't the most rigid chairlift and the Victorian state government "Lifts and cranes" inspector made the owner close it down after 5 years.

Hi Dave. This chair was actually a Mueller, however the towers were a hybrid that were built by Transfield at the time. Transfield were doing much of the Snowy Mountains transmission towers - so used that as the basis of the design and didn't 100% follow Mueller. The towers on the Merrits Chair are very similar to this, even though the chair is 'officially' a Riblet.

This was a 100% Mueller chair built in two stages, however due to some technical issues they replaced the top half with Riblet towers and sheeves. I do have a photo of the original Mueller top-half extension; I'll have a dig and see if I can find it. The chair in the background is Ramshead - 100% Riblet!

Cheers, Richard.

@ Skier: Wow, thanks... This are a lot of lifts! And here in Switzerland - the home country of Mueller - just one double and one triple chair have left...

@ all: I already posted the pictures of this Mueller double:

In the same folder I also found these pictures of a very early Poma double:

The Poma and the Mueller pictures are developed onto the same type of paper etc... so I think that these pictures were taken in the same ski area. If someone knows some old very old Poma doubles, it might be possible to find the appropriate location.
