None of my earlier post is based on speculation.
I was on my way to the gondola with a friend when I mentioned in passing how there was no room for the lift queue in winter with the extent of the construction. An employee in a maroon Northstar polo shirt overheard us and stated that Northstar was going to move the gondola building over, but instead chose to shift the village plans after finding the gondola project to be too expensive. He also said that Echo was being upgraded to a HSQ and that it would be complete by Christmas.

If you want speculation, there was a run being worked on by Lookout Road that went down to the bottom of Comstock. I believe that it is a new addition. Additionally, there was a sign on the backside pointing toward Lookout Road that said 'Schaffer Camp construction site'. Perhaps it is already under construction. If these things are true, then Northstar will probably put in a lift from the bottom of Comstock to Schaffer Camp next year, as Schaffer Camp is very hard to get to without the addition of a lift.

Ok, I was just wondering if it was a sure deal or not. It's too bad that Booth is putting all its money into Northstar. It is a fun mountain if you seldom go, but it is pretty boring except for a few trails such as The Woods and The Face to Hootowl. The Woods is probably the hardest trail to find, but it is definetly the best, I just wish it was higher up so it could have some better snow. I wish they would put some money into Sierra because they are the ones that really need it. Traffic is a huge issue as is the lines on Short Stuff and Nob Hill needs to be upgraded. Almost anyone would say Sierra is a better mountain so I don't understand what booth is doing right now.

I just stopped at Mammoth on my way back from Tahoe. The school yard express has the lower terminal and all the towers up. The towers aren't complete though. The new liftline is about 100 yards to the right from the old one. The old chair 17 is just sitting in parts at the spot of the old lower terminal. Have they sold it?

Thats fine. Im sure someone will post some on the mammoth forum soon. Someone tooke pictures of the village gondola when it was built, so hopefully they will get some of this as well.

I don't know if they've sold it, but I didn't see anything in the SAM classifieds either so maybe they're going to hold onto it for a later project. Used Riblets go pretty quick, but used Yans? Only if you want all that baggage along with your lift...

Northstar-at-Tahoe will invest nearly $1.5 million in two different facilities located west of the current Gondola building on an elevated plaza, east of the new Village at Northstar site, collectively known as the Village Plaza. The nucleus of all Northstar's skier services will be located here and its close proximity to the Gondola provides guests with easy access to tickets, gear and breakfast, allowing them to get on the slopes quicker than ever before.
One of the facilities, currently being referred to as the Village Pavilion, includes a season pass and ticket center, sports bar and food and beverage outlets to include the following:
Breakfast-Espresso stand serving pastries, muffins, Peet's coffee and tea.
Lunch- Soups and chili will be served at the bar, a barbecue outside will offer signature Niman Ranch burgers and criss-cut fries, Petaluma chicken sandwiches, freshly prepared salads and fresh-baked cookies.
Après Ski- At the end of the day, head here for mile-high nachos, chili cheese fries, chicken wings and happy hour specials. On weekends and holidays, block parties offer guests the perfect opportunity to maximize their day at Northstar. Lifts will operate under extended hours and live music and fire pits at the Village Plaza provide friends and family with the perfect venue to recap the day's adventures.
The Village Pavilion will have a lively atmosphere at the end of the day and a contagious energy that draws people in. Ten flat screen televisions around the bar broadcasting sports and live entertainment on select days give the Pavilion the true sports bar feel. The facility includes indoor and outdoor seating, fire pit gathering areas and a barbecue.
The second facility houses skier services which includes an upgraded season pass locker room, private locker space, a convenient Wi-Fi internet connection, relaxation area, refreshments, espresso stand, information desk, basket check and complimentary overnight ski storage. The indoor ski check will be expanded over Northstar's previous capacity, allowing many more guests to utilize this free service.
New Echo Express Quad Chairlift
This season, getting to the top of the mountain will be a breeze thanks to a new Dopplemayr high-speed quad that will replace the Echo fixed-grip triple chairlift. The Echo chairlift runs parallel to the Gondola and both are used as the main arteries to transport guests from the base Village to mid-mountain. Traditionally used to help with overflow on busy days at the resort, this season guests will reach mid-mountain in approximately five minutes on Echo, versus more than twice that on the old chairlift.
"By replacing a 26-year-old chair with a new high speed quad lift, we alleviate the crowding that tended to occur on busy days near the Village," said Tim Silva, Northstar-at-Tahoe's general manager. "The new Echo lift will greatly improve the guest experience getting to the mid-mountain area."
The new lift is slated to open in December 2004.
Drop-Off Zones and Ski Valet Services
As another added convenience for guests, Northstar is adding two new traffic drop-off zones at the entrance to the Village. One is designated for private vehicles and the other for buses and shuttles. Private vehicles can pull into the drop-off area, unload their guests and ski gear with the ConSKIerge and go park the car. This will alleviate guests having to schlep their gear from the parking lots across Northstar Drive.
Northstar-at-Tahoe will have a ConSKIerge, concierge service for equipment, stationed at the drop-off zones at the entrance to the Village where guests can check their skis and go park the car-the ultimate luxury for solo drivers and families.
Enhanced Grooming Fleet
In keeping with Northstar's commitment and tradition of grooming a minimum of 70 percent of its open trails nightly, Northstar has added three state-of-the-art Bombardier snowcats to the grooming fleet, along with a Zaugg halfpipe cutter. The new snowcats include a Sherpa Winch, which is used to groom steep slopes and a snowcat that is specifically designed for building and maintaining terrain features. This will ensure that Northstar upholds its impeccable, award-winning grooming standards on all of its terrain, day-in and day-out.
Daily real time grooming maps will be distributed daily at the resort, providing guests with the insiders' line on the most current conditions on the mountain. Runs are coded for grooming and snowmaking, eliminating the surprise factor so that guests know what to expect on their favorite runs.
Parking and Shuttle Improvements
Northstar-at-Tahoe is adding more shuttle buses to its fleet this winter and additional shuttle service both on and off site. Guests staying in Truckee, North Lake Tahoe, Reno and South Lake Tahoe will be able to catch a complimentary ride to Northstar quicker than ever before, while guests staying at Northstar never have to drive a car once they arrive.
On busy days, Northstar can accommodate additional private vehicles at the neighboring Truckee Airport, which is located only three miles away and offers convenient off-site parking for guests on weekends and holidays. Shuttles will begin transporting guests to the resort at 8 a.m. and run on regularly scheduled intervals throughout the day. This door-to-door shuttle service will offer added convenience to guests, as it drops off right at the entrance of the Village, which avoids guests having to carry their gear from the parking lots.
Terrain Park Expansions
At Northstar-at-Tahoe, the family that jibs together stays together, which is why Northstar created its new family terrain park on "The Straights." This playground of non-intimidating features is a great introduction to freestyle terrain that the whole family can enjoy. From rails and fun boxes located mere inches from the snow to gentle rolling jumps that allow riders to get the feeling of air for the first time, this park allows children and parents to test gravity at their own pace. The run will be designated as a slow skiing and riding zone to keep the area fun and safe. Mom and dad will be shreddin' in no time!

Developed by Burton Snowboards in conjunction with the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI), LTR is an innovative learning program designed to minimize falls and accelerate learning by utilizing beginner specific equipment and small class sizes.
The primary goal of the LTR program is to have riders linking turns comfortably their first day out, get new riders hooked on snowboarding, and leave them wanting more. Strictly for learners, the Burton Method Center features the Burton LTR and Cruzer boards, as well as the Foundation SI boots and binding system. Burton board designers tested prototypes with true beginners in lessons conducted by certified AASI instructors. The instructors observed how learners fared on the different prototypes and guided the design direction. The end result produced boards, boots and bindings made specifically for learning.
Enhanced Rental Facilities
In addition to offering the new Burton equipment, Northstar continues to enhance its innovative rental shops with the following new additions:

We're investing a cool $10 million in on-mountain improvements this summer. We cut the cable on the old Powder Bowl and Waterfall lifts, making way for our new high-speed six passenger lift. The new lift will dramatically cut down the ride time on the California side of the mountain and that only means one thing...MORE SKIING AND RIDING FOR YOU! We're also purchasing five new grooming machines, upgrading our snowmaking system and installing two new web cams.
