Well it appears that the bottom terminal of the new Schoolyard Express (17) at Mammoth is done. I can't see any foundations or towers, so they probably aren't quite that far yet.

Here is the new lower terminal from about 12:20 today.

You will be suprised on how fast that lift will be complete. I think that lift could be running within the next two weeks. Then it goes through a series of lift tests and stuff to see if the lift is safe to transport people.

The towers are most likely already up and ready. You can put up all the towers in one day. The haul rope also takes one day, basically they just use a crane to pick up the haul rope and place it on the sheave trains on the towers. The terminal is basically just a pre-built model that has to be snapped together. All the wiring and controls have already been built. Carriers should only take a few days to add and this lift will be ready to move.

I think the lift may have a new line because the old terminal was in a different spot then that, so the towers may actually be up, and they probably are or will be in the next 2 weeks.

I've seen a lot of bulldozing going on to the right of the old line. I think you would see them though.

Here's another project:

Echo at Northstar is being replaced with a HSQ. They were removing the bullwheel when I was there mountain biking today. The haul rope and chairs are all down, as well as the rails to ensure that the chairs don't hit the towers. It is supposed to be completed by Christmas. It appeared as though there was going to be no room for the lift queue of the Gondola, with the extent of the construction, but now that won't matter. Appearantly, they were going to move the entire gondola building over when they built the village, but it turned out to be too expensive. Instead, they just shifted the plans. So the line will take its former course.

Oh, and they are still planning on putting another lift from the village (either in the middle or the far opposite end from the gondola) to mid-mountain in a few years from now.

So much for the mountain not being crowded from opening to about 10:00. This sounds like it could make a mess.

So when are they going to replace Pioneer?!

Well then I guess that the new lift at Northstar will be a L-P or something since its not on my Doppelmayr installation sheet. But it makes no sense on why it would be a L-P since the other H-S lifts are Dopps and one Garaventa CTEC.

Three possibilities:

1. Northstar was so late on the ball that they did not buy the lift until after the list was published (the lift still mostly stands). Therefore, it could still be a Doppelmayr.

2. Northstar did not like the UNI-GS and went with Poma instead, as they were probably too late to get a Stealth.

3. Poma outbid Doppelmayr.

Very interesting. What they should do is make the Echo line a little shorter so it starts a little past the gondola building so that it isn't as close as it is now. Strange who late they are starting on this project.

Did you get an employee to confirm this caski? On their sire they have the picture and it says "relocated echo chairlift" on the echo terminal, so they may just be moving the terminal up the line a little and taking out a tower or 2. I may be completly wrong, but that is a possibility unless you got a worker to confirm that a new lift is going in. If that is the case, they are a bit behind schedule especially if the lift isnt even down yet and its just about september. Those will be some long gondola lines untill the new lift opens......

We saw from Diamond Peak last year that you can get a late start on a lift and still get it up in time

Yes but Diamond Peak wasn't open untill the 18th of december, and that was when the lift was finished. In this case the lift will not be complete untill about a month and a half into the season. Northstar is creating quite the warzone down at the village with all of it under construction plus a lift under construction. This may be a good year to avoid the place.

Squaw has a pdf for "Whats new for 04-05", so here it is:
http://www.squaw.com...newfor04-05.pdf

They say they have added restrooms on the funitel unloading deck, and the only way this is possible is if the gondola is out and part of the cabin storage was used for the facilities. They will probably keep about half of it for the mechanics and all their stuff as it is now. They also say they are putting in a new "deluxe double chairlift" so I wonder what will be so great about it.
