But if you think about it, would Kirkwood actually want to pay for lift operators to operatore those short surface lifts and they probably wouldn't even be used that much? It kind of doesn't make sense to me, so I have a feeling not all those surface lifts will go in.

No, they will be used for sure. With hs lift access to most of them, why wouldnt you go to it? The terrain is awesome and the people that hike it love it. This would get all the hikers plus everyother skier on the mountain to it, thats why it sucks. It needs to stay hike-to, kinda like the cone at bachelor. Work for your turns.

Gentlemen,

Another project in California this summer, Homewood is replacing a lift with a Partek Triple.

Kind of off topic but Partek, did you make any lifts or retrofit one in Indiana. I have a picture that looks exactly like a Partek from Paoli Peaks ski area. I'll post the pictures when I can. My cousins computer is SLOW!!!

It is about time that Homewood did something. I am happy that you are the recipient of their business.

They seem like a great customer. Are they replacing the Quail Double?

Also, the new Hole n' Wall lift at Kirkwood is going in next summer, and will be built by Poma.

With what you have said about homewood, are you being sarcastic?

I would be rather concerned about the proper maintenence of the lift from what you have said.

No, im not being sarcastic. I think they would treat it pretty good. Their old Thiokol triple seems like it is in just fine condition, and thats from at least the 70s. Yes the Madden chair may be a bit beat up, but they put on new assemblies, so they don't neglect their lifts. Lastly, the Quail Double, the lift I think will be replaced looked to be ancient. I dont know if anyone else here saw it, but it was a beast. One of the only lifts around that still had latice towers. Also, that lift looked to be in good condition, as they put on newer doppelmayr double chairs, and there wasnt really any rust on it.

Well looks like Mt Rose will be putting in their towers for their 2 lifts on sunday. I was hoping to get up there and check out that, plus Iron Mountain, but looks like it won't be happening untill september or october when my brother leaves for college.

As far as other projects, no word on the new double at squaw, maybe I should write them. No word as well on the new 6-pack up at heavenly, but they have probably already gotten rid of the old triples. Anyone know if they are cutting a new line for that one? Homewood has yet to reply to both me and cameron's emails, and other then that, nothing is really going on in tahoe. At Mammoth, I'm not sure on the progress, but they just put out the press release on the new lift. Hopefully they, or someone over on the mammoth forums can get some pictures of the construction. T

Well, from my Doppelmayr CTEC installation list, Squaw's double lift and Heavenly's new six pack are both going in. That six pack at heavenly is only like 3,500 feet long, another short lift.

Yea, but it makes sense. The old way, it was either the tram or gunbarrel to the top, then you rode down to the 2 triples, then you were at Canyon and Sky. Now they will only have 2 run 1 lift instead of 2.

Yeah, Mt. Rose, Squaw, and Heavenly are definitely going ahead with their projects, from what I gather from the local newspapers. The big question is whether Alpine Meadows will upgrade Sherwood this year or next.

I went to Northstar for some mountain biking, and I definitely see some problems with their village. The construction seems to go right up to the Gondola (the big open area near the plaza below that newer building where the rentals are is now torn up). I don't see where they are going to put the line for the Gondola. It seems as though the only way it can go is down the stairs through the heart of the village instead of to the side like it used to. Looks as though I will be skiing a lot more of Squaw and Alpine (never been to Alpine before) next year. Though who knows, that project in the Martis Valley may ruin everything in the Tahoe Basin.

Well it looks like the gondola building will be pretty much the end of the village based on some models. This next winter will proabably be a joke over there with all the construction, so I will probably avoid the place all winter. Hopefully the Martis Valley stuff wont mess it up too much, but it will still leave the south shore pretty much intact.

If you are going to alpine, its a pretty fun mountain. There are a lot of runs you can hike to for better snow, and they have some very interesting lines. THe trail map surley doesnt portray the mountain very well.

Here is the site plan for the village. The gray building is what is already there, and you can see all the new stuff. The gondola is on the upper left.

No, I dont think they are. It would be nice if they upgraded it to an 8 person to kill that early morning rush (makes for about a 30 minute line), but last I heard they want to put in a 6-pack up to mid-mountain to replace the echo lift, but who knows, echo works just fine when the line is long on the gondola. I would email them, but they have auto-response, or if they do actualy write back, its usually way to general.

41 towers and close to a 15 minute ride. Quite a beast, but it sure as heck beats waiting for the gondola listening to crappy 90s music.

From what I have seen, they are not going to remove Echo, but they are going to realign it. The Six-pack is going from either the middle or the far opposite end of the village to mid-mountain.
