Mammoth has plans for it but I kind of think it's a bad idea in some ways. It seems like you will have to switch gondola cabins at the Canyon station because then skiing would be free. I also have a feeling that this won't happen for a while because Mammoth would have just finished the gondola when they first built it because it would have been cheaper.

About mammoth they have some big plans. First they want to extend the gondola as you said, then they want to replace 16 (eagle express) with another gondola and make chair 9 a 6-pack. If they do it all, i think it would be a 3 stage gondola linking the village to canyon to the hill back to the bottom of eagle. This summer they are making 17 an express quad.

Well squaw has had an interesting trip over the years. As far as Far East as a gondola, that WON'T happen for awhile. When you look at the plan it is from 1999, the lift was built in 2000 as a 6, so maybe when the village is complete it will happen. The village is currently only half built. They have plans to extend it all the way to the creek, but that may not happen for some time since the current part isn't doing too well. Now as far as hotels go on the mountain, i can see at least one going up onto the mountain. An interesting note is that just pass the high camp/ belmot chairs' unload area they have a massive area of land that has been flattened and looks as if it could fit a hotel. The main problem and thing holding back these projects probably is the accessability issue. During a big storm whatever is built is stuck up there. The funitel can handle high winds but it still has to close at certain times. I predict ONE hotel will be built within the next 10 years. The new double chair will be good for beginners but the area thins out pretty early. Im guessing it will be a Poma chair, but i don't know for sure. Now since they say they have some projects for the future, some probably will be upgrading Shirley Lake to a 6-pack, Red Dog and Squaw Creek to Express quads, and they probably will upgrade Links to a Fixed Quad. I bet they want to upgrade Granite Chief, but it would be hard due to the small amount of land avalible atop the lift. One last note is that the High Camp tennis club and pool opened in the early 90s and they have wanted to build some sort of "village" since the late 80s. As far as the future goes, the sky seems to be the limit at Squaw. They seem to have a lot of money and they offer a fun mountain for the visitors. The only thing holding them back is Placer County and other environmental agencies.

At least Cushing has one thing right...

He said that the maximum number of people on the mountain is somewhere around 20,000 people, and he also said that he doesn't want to increase the number more than that. I hope they don't screw the place up.

From satellite images, I just can't see how the hotel could go on that flattened land. It is right in the middle of everything on the upper mountain. At least at the point where the pulse bends, it is somewhat out of the way. I don't think the hotel(s) will go in anyway considering the fact that Cushing referred to them almost as just an idea being thrown around in the very back of his mind. At any rate, it seems as though a hotel would go in AT High Camp or Goldcoast first (as an addition) if anything at all were to happen.

How could you build a golf course on a ski resort? Or am I just reading the post wrong?

Nope, they wanted to put a golf course right around High Camp, right in the middle area of the mountain. (Actually, more toward the top).

It would work fine. In the summer it turns into a nice meadow. It probably wouldnt be big enough for an 18 hole set-up, but 9 would go in fine. It is pretty flat becasue it is the beginner area.

The meadow is much prettier than the golf course would be though.

Well of course; keep in mind this was probably planned in the mid-60s just before the links chair was put in. I wonder when sugar bowl is going to realign the crows nest chair.....

As I have said before, Mammoth is putting in a new HSQ for chair 17, so if you check out the canyon webcam, you may be able to check some of it out.

This morning when i looked there were 2 yan tower heads, and the targets for the catapult challenge that the conference held.

Well it looks like kirkwood will be ruined soon. I found a site showing plans for new lifts and all that, and it doesnt look good. They are making practically everything you have to hike to now lift accessed. A surface lift to the wave, lookout vista and High Whisky. Why do resorts feel everything has to have a lift going to it? The hike is what makes it good becasue it keeps people off. They should leave something for those willing to work. This is so bad, 3 times worse then if alpine put a surface lift on high t.

Here is a map and you can read about it:

you should e-mail them and tell them to reconsider this plan. I'm down with the fg quad being upgraded toa hsq though. It seems like a long ride.

Are they going to re-use the old Yan tower heads for this lift?

There are going to be new tower heads since the lift it's replacing was a triple and not a quad. Zack posted a picture of two tower heads near the Canyon lodge.

im not sure those are from that lift since the haul rope was still on as of sunday. As far as emailing kirkwood, i doubt they would care what one person thinks.

Start a website, maybe. Make a petition.

I can imagine that you would get a number of people from the Mammoth Forum to write...

It beats a single person's e-mail, but it probably isn't going to change anything...
