Skied Gore today and took some pics of their new burnt ridge detachable quad. Sexy lift :-)

Would be sexier if they ran it faster than 800 fpm. All there high speeds are ran either 800fpm or 700fpm. But the terrain kicks ass. Welcome to my neck of the woods.

What's the reason for the reduce speed other then to save power / cut down on # of stops / slows.....

Probably to reduce wear and tear too.

Most resorts don't run their detaches at full speed when not needed. Pico only runs their detaches at 650- 700 most weekdays and when i worked at Killington not even the K-1 ran at full speed unless management had a bug up their bum!

Hopefully one of the Sparkies will jump in here, but it is my understanding that while you may save wear and tear on you terminals and grips running at reduced speed, you actually are causing harm to your electric motor(s) as they are designed to run at peak RPM's.

Sheer Bliss at Snowmass runs 900fpm. no faster. Weekdays on the Village express it runs 950. Weekends it varys from 825 to 900 depending on crowds. Campground runs 550fpm all the time. The Elk Camp Gondi runs 950 tops out around 980. Elk Camp quad can do 1100fpm and does run with public at the speed if the lift is busy enough. otherwise its 950fpm.

Big Burn tops out at 950 and is ran at that unless high winds.

...and I think if you look at the Design Specs for them they should all run 1000fpm with Elk Camp at 1100fpm.
Just sayin'.....

Was there in December and February. It is a super comfortable lift and it is fast too.

Wow. The only time we ever slow ours down is for wind, except the Flyer which we'll run at 950-ish on Saturdays to give beginners that little bit of extra time loading and unloading.

Isn't it less efficient to run a lift at less than design speed for prolonged periods of time?

This lift will soon connect with the North Creek Ski Bowl, coming next winter.
