My father-in-law owns a park in Peten, Guatemala with sight-seeing tours in the rainforest. He's looking to install a simple lift to carry people 1300 meters across a ridge. It doesn't need to carry a lot of people or go very fast. From what I gather, the big parts (towers, motor, generator, seats) can be bought/fabricated by local companies, but I am looking for drive components, preferably used, as we'd like to save money. How simple can this be? Is it advisable to acquire used components?
The humidity out there is close to 100% all the time, and this concerns me a bit. He says that a stainless-steel cable will be necessary. I've never heard of this, but I'm no expert on lifts.
I'm a total newbee to this industry and would appreciate any advice or direction you could give.
Thank you
Robert

Robert here is a good set of links for installers and other ropeway information: http://www.ropetech....ry_-_Links.html
Shameless plug for constructor of forest ropeways: http://www.outbackconstruction.com/
The cable or “wire rope” as the tech guys call it, often is galvanized for wet environment.
Here is skilifts.org glossary page: http://www.skilifts....ld/glossary.htm for more information.
Also the forums have good information, don't forget search function (green box at the top of the page).

Robert,
I will recomend to talk to somebody who install lifts professionally.
Is not difficoult to find used lifts for resonable prices in Europe or North America, if you send me some informations I probably can look in to it.

Thanks, Kelly, for the links. I found a lot of companies that do installations. I'll keep looking around for now.

Robert
