That's actually just a Doppelmayr UNI-G terminal with a different skin. They're found mostly in France with a couple in Spain.

I would agree that isn't the only reason, but it's one of them. The price has obviously been right for each of the installations. If Poma didn't offer a competitive price then the Aspen Skiing Company would buy from some other manufacturer. I think other advantages to staying exclusive to Leitner-Poma is the learning curve for operations and maintenance. Also, there has to be some savings and ease of stocking parts. Your parts inventory is going to increase if you have equipment from a variety of different models and manufacturers.

It does help keep the price down, though. It costs less to transport the parts from Grand Junction instead of Salt Lake. That's partly why Doppelmayr CTEC lifts are so popular in Utah, and there are only a handful of Pomas.

Yeah, to me it looks like it would fit better with Poma's line of terminals rather than Dopp's.

If I had to choose between the terminals listed (purely on aesthetics) I would go for the newer UNI-G. For me the Poma terminals just look to "industrial" will all the corrugated alluminium. The UNI-G has nice clean curves.

PS: What does the bit sticking out of the back right hand side accomodate on the 2nd omega do?

It is usually the customer that decides the features of the lift, including what the terminal will look like. They all have options to choose from.. just look at the a LP terminal with the cedar siding and cedar underskin in "New Lifts 09".. does not look industrial to me.

It prevents snow from sliding off the terminal and hitting guest in the head...

This is kind of a continuation of the topic, but which do you like better: the Doppelmayr CTEC UNI-G or the UNI-G Vision?

For Doppelmayr-CTEC, I'd say the UNI-G only because it looks more sleek and timeless. The UNI-GS just looks kind of boxy. Although the UNI-GS was built as a cheap alternative for the American markets, It seems as though Vail Resorts Keystone, Beaver Creek, and Heavenly prefer the UNI-G.

For Poma, I'd probably have to go with the second generation. My complaint though for both models is the significant height that was added for both models, especially since their previous model (Challenger) did without it. For that, I'd almost say I prefer the Challenger model over Omega. Although, Apres-Vous Express at Jackson Hole (1G) does without the stack on the drive terminal and it's a very sleek looking lift. I think they should have more of those.
