Skyride station burns at Alton Towers (UK)

Sad to hear, especially since one station was hit by fire just 2 years ago..

Noticed there was some queries about the cabins used on this lift in the old topic. The cabins were designed by Poma for use on the DMC at Alpe d'Huez in France, which was constructed in 1986, the year before the Skyride.

As you can see in the image below, the cabins were originally held up by a central grip using 4 spring coils to attach it to the cables.

Unlike at Alton Towers, the cabins have a capacity of 25 persons, obviously due to the dual cable design. Other stats are as follows;

Total distance: 3550m
Number of pylons: 12
Capacity: 3000pph
Speed: 5-6 m/s

The skyride is now back in buisness as the new lift opens.

The New Lift has a middle station!
