Hey

I have seen poma chairs that almost look like CTEC's, and then there are some that look like Doppelmayrs?

The Superstar Express @ Killington and TGV @ tremblant are both poma's. Superstar though has chairs that look like Doppelmayr style almost. TGV doesn't have the 45 degree angle poles on each side (don't know the lingo ;)

This

vs.

This (second pic down)

Just curious

This is just a matter of the year that the chairlift came out. The canyon quad is older than the chairlift pictured at poma.com. This is also because of the fact that one of the lifts is detachable, and one of the lifts is not.

Well this is just the chair style. The first one was used to 98 (?) and the other ones up until then. Cameron or liftmech would have more info.

This new carrier design came out in 1997 I believe. I think it's POMA's best carrier design yet and my second favorite.

I haven't ridden an omega chair but personally i really like the older poma chairs they have really nice padding and rattle a lot less than doppelmayr chairs the only change i would make would be a lighter retraint bar as it get rather heavy with foot rests added

The Omega is Poma's newest version and yes it does look a great deal like a Doppelmayr. It has been available since '97, and coexisted for a time with the older Falcon-style carriers. You may still be able to buy the older style if you want your new lift to look like your existing one. For a few years there was also the Competition carrier, which looked like CTEC's with the straight bails instead of the Falcon's bent ones.

superstar is actually a yan chair modifiedby poma. The original mods were done in 97. The new carriers replaced the Yan ones last year. The new poma carriers are much better than the old falcon ones, I don't feel like I will fall over the back.

The TGV is the old one.

It's the one I prefer.

The ones in that last picture posted by Eric is the original one, then the Competition one that was used in the mid 90s, and now the new Omega ones that are on the new lifts

I believe this carrier design was out before the Yan tear drop design. The flyer was built in 1986 while the Yan Type 7 was released in 87 or 88.

Yes I noticed that last year.

Not to get off topic, but what is with the ugly green rusted terminals killington uses?

The Superstar chairs are very nice and padded, but they don't have footrests. :temper:

They dont "use" rusted green terminals, they have not maintained them and that is the result. Kinda like the actual store KMart, kinda crappy, a littly sloppy, but still has some good stuff.

Nice description of KMart :---:
Poma has had four detachable carrier designs since they started building them, while Doppelmayr has had only two (and the first one didn't last that long). It seems they tried to have a distinctive carrier, but in the end the customers wanted a similar style (and less parts to stock). The first carrier design- the original Falcon- was taken directly from Poma's existing fixed-grip carrier.

well taht is the truth about the store. Squaw has the falcon, and several poma triples, so you can see they are the same carrier.

The superstar express has had a bit of history. Originally a yan Express chair it was retrofitted with new terminals and sheaves. Also installed were TB-41 grips. The chairs were replaced with new omega chairs. Same with most express quads at killington and pico. All of the other quads have the original yan chairs.

I don't like the poma chairs. They don't seem as comfortable as some of the other ones.
