It's a 300' vertical ski bump in SE michigan that has the areas only HSQ, it was a joke.

Actually, about 100 miles west of Mt Holly there's a HSQ at Bittersweet (another 300' bump) . Same owners, so I guess it must work from a business perspective or they wouldn't have done it twice.

As for whether it's iconic or not, well, it looks pretty much exactly like every other HSQ Poma out there, with the added advantage that you can get the whole damn thing in one photo. Maybe that's your icon right there.

As iconic stuff, both Quicksilver Super6 and the Imperial Express SuperChair in Breckenridge count with good reason  .

Reasons:

Quicksilver Super6: North America's only double loading chairlift.
Imperial Express SuperChair: The Highest Lift in North America

Wow, a 1935 lift still operating.

That surely has to be the world's oldest remaining ski lift?

Here in Australia the oldest we can go is a 1953 nutcracker lift which operates on a minor mountain.
http://wikiski.com/wiki/index.php/Non_reso...s#Mt_St_Bernard

It's been on it's present site since 1955. The pre-war ski lifts (like the one in my picture) are long gone.

Hmm the old castlerock chair would get my vote as well as the MRG single. The new electric drive version doesn't get oil on my jacket as much as the old version but hey it is still a single chair built 2 years ago.

Slide Brook from a lift geek perspective is an awesome ride and gets my nomination. It hurts me that Slide brook is getting such a bad name at the moment because the ambassadors there keep saying that Slide Brook was a mistake. I wholeheartedly disagree and think they should run it all the time. I hate taking off my skis and riding a shuttle especially since you have to walk around that big hotel at Sugarbush South now to get to the shuttle stop.

I would also nominate if we are going with lifts not standing the old Northeast Passage Triple at Killington. One hell of a long ride and one of the few lifts you had to go down to go up.

Is this a discussion about the oldest ski lifts or unique ski lifts or iconic ? I don't think the first image that pops into most folks mind when they think about a ski lift is a lift from 1935 that they have never seen or been on ? The general public doesn't know that a double loading six pack is any different from a fixed grip quad. Perhaps the topic should be changed to "What is your favorite ski lift" ?

Well that's one way to kill a thread; insist that it stays "on topic". :temper:

Although not many may agree, I found the Summit Platter at Lake Louise to be very special because you don't see platter lifts like this in many places anymore in North America. Now you usually just see detachables going everywhere, so its definitely unique and in my opinion iconic of what skiing should be thought as for the terrain, not just the lifts accessing it. It accesses some very nice terrain and the views are quite amazing plus a lot of people seemed to avoid it since it was a surface lift so crowding was definitely not an issue.

So at least for me, I'd consider it an iconic lift. Just look at the view you get!

For me the lift that stands out the most would be the Silver Bullet/Steamboat Gondola .. it defined Steamboat for many years
