Some folks that I know are heading down to Steamboat soon for a short get away and since I have not been there in a long time, I was hoping to get some help from the forum with information concerning Steamboat. Where to ski ? Cool places to eat ? Who's got the coldest, largest & cheapest beers ? Where do locals eat breakfast ? Is there anything in town that is a must do ?

Best happy hour is the Snowbird at the Ptarmigan Inn, slopeside by tower 2 of the gondola has $3 apetizers & $7 dollar Steamboat Pale Ale pitchers. The Tugboat is the best bar on the mountain, downtown go for old town pub & tap house. places not to miss: Double Z BBQ downtown & the Strawberry Park Hot springs. As for powder stashes - Pony Express Trees are great after a good snow.

Well trooper1556 pretty much summed it up. Old Town Pub has the best burgers in town, and don't miss the Strawberry Park hot springs. Best pow spot I'd say is either the Closet or the Shadows off of Sundown Express.

Double z is a must, mazolas has good pizza, and the mexican place in town has good food and big margiritas. I haven't been there in a couple of years hopefully those places are still open.

just was talking to someone just back from the 'boat, said be careful at the hot springs, I guess some of the guys there are a bit 'friendly', although this is coming from a golf guy.

Well at Strawberry Park, clothing is optional after dark, so expect everyone to be drunk, stoned, and naked.

Sounds like my kind of place! Minus naked men of course...thanks Mike, for posting this thread to give us some ideas. Hopefully the next storm stalls out and doesn't hit until Sunday, or we may not even attempt this trip. I really don't want to get stuck on 80 (again) especially at night.

haha, yeah strawberry park can get a bit wild after dark, so depending on your style & if your bringing kids, that can be good or bad. also forgot to chime in on the breakfat question - creekside cafe, the shack & wynonas are great (in that order, in my opinion)

Oh yea, its the weekend for hill climb at Snow King. Been 10 years since I seen that, but pretty wild to see runaway sled hit the catch net. If I remember right the net is attached to the lift tower.

It's supposed to be fairly clear all weekend (just checked the weather from the avy centre) and then begin to cloud up late Sunday night. Monday should see snow for part of the day. CAIC avalanche and weater site You heading down this way? It's been pretty nice this week (read: it nuked for three days straight and I haven't skied this much in a long time  )

Why in the world would you run out and try to grab a cartwheeling snowmobile? Some of those guys in the vests seem to have brain damage.

I would assume they're making sure it doesn't hit any bystanders. And making sure it heads for the net.

I'm sure that is the intend but one person running towards a cartwheeling snowmobile is a dead man walking.

Well we made it! Can't tell where anything is, as we got here at 9:30 pm, so I'm anxious to see what this place looks like during the day! Once again, thanks for the suggestions. Plan on hitting both the on mountain bars that were mentioned, and either the Mexican place with the big margs, or the pizza place. (I love good pizza) John, not sure if we'll make it down your way...how far is it anyway?

Two hours, give or take a few minutes. How long are you in town for?

We'll be here until Tuesday morning. Getting ready to head out on the hill...my friend and our new apprentice just called me to say Jackson got 13" of fresh! Hopefully something happens down here as well.
