On my recent visit to Jackson, I noticed on the Apres Vous lift there was a horse shoe shaped bar. The bar started at the carrier, looped over the arm and back to the chair. Is this to limit the chair's lateral movement from side to side?

I believe that's just a form of a lifting hook. You can kind of see the hook on this Doppelmayr chair right under the number.

If that was the case there not be a gap inbetween it and the hanger arm.

I believe that's for lift evac, so people in the chair can be lowered to the ground easier than if the evac rope was over the haul rope.

When I look at your picture, from Keystone's Peru Express, I can almost clearly see it if you look very carefully underneath the number. I had to use your photos, skierdude, but don't worry.

Here's a better close up, from Vail's Orient Express showing that part as on Doppelmayr lifts:

I cannot say that I have ever seen this on an Omega chair? On Gerventa Chair it is common if not standard, but never seen such a thing on a Poma.

It's for Lift Evac as Bachelor said, and Leitner Poma do have them as well as Dopp.

When I went looking around skierdude's Teewinot lift gallery, it looked like the chairs there had this same thing.

I'm pretty sure most Pomas have similar little hooks, although I'm not sure. I might check if the Vail Poma quads have them when I go up there this weekend.
