Alyeska Resort owner, John Byrne recently held a press conference about this future of his resort. He stated that he has plans in the near future to replace both the existing HSQ (Chair 6) and Chair 4 with HSQs, although Chair 4 is a highest priority and speculates that Chair 6 will be replaced in 6 to 7 years.
He aslo mentioned that he would like to replace the existing tram with a new one, which would be done before the replacement of Chair 6.
A new master plan will be revealed March 7.

The "news conference" you talked about was a yearly conference on development in Glacier Valley.You must remeber that John Byrnes is a "dreamer".The lift replacement will happen only if he sells his realistate and i doubt he wil remove the exsiting tram as it is only 15yrs old. The plans i've seen call for adding a small tram like the one at Big Sky. With the economy in the toilet I'll be surprized to see some new lifts any time soon. Untill then we will have to keep skiing more powder.

Replace the existing Tram?? HA! .. to what??
Man you just know when owners have too much money & time on their hands..
There's no way he's going to up the capacity.. or really be able to increase the turn around time. The Trammie is pretty much a dead end unless you're payin' to stay @ the swanky hotel and the North face is open... and there's no cat track for beginners to head down that to have a beer and lunch. I have the feeling they don't want Girdwood riff-raff accessing the mountain through the Hotel that way anyways.
The Quads are in a real need to be replaced.. I actually worked with a fella who was on the origional project, and from what he told me, it was a tough one to build and engineer from day one.
I've been doing this so long when I hear and read things like this from owners, I take it with a huge grain of salt. I hope the first quad gets finished before the bills come rollin' in. A replacement of the second is hopefully to be done at the same time... (you older lift guys know what I'm saying..)
