I thought I would like you to know. One woman put her coat covered the box of the wedding gifts, she took both, and she walked out. I never thought it before.

Wedding Gifts Stolen From Sandy Reception

$2,000 in Wedding Gifts Stolen

It was supposed to be the best day of their lives, but instead newlyweds say 2 women crashed their wedding reception and stole thousands of dollars.

"I was upset couldn't believe someone could do such a thing," said the bride, Natalie Buie from Holladay.

Natalie and Chase Buie married on January 10th and that night had their reception at Heritage Gardens in Sandy,

"It was such a beautiful day the reception was absolutely wonderful danced the night away," said Natalie.

But at about 7:46 the survelliance video from the reception center shows two women hanging out at the sign-in table where the gift box was located.

In the video one of the women is seen playing look-out while the other puts her coat over the gift box which contains more then $2,000 in money and gift cards from guests.

The woman then picks up the coat and the gift box, then her and her friend quickly head out of the reception hall.

"And there they go, out the door," said Chase as he watches the survelliance video on his computer and points to what is happening.

"I think they've done it before at other weddings because they were really precise," he said.

Sandy police are calling it a crime of opportunity and investigators say reception halls are usually a place where criminals will go because they can go unnoticed in the crowds.

The Buie's hope someone will recognize the women from the survelliance video so that they don't do this to someone else.

"It was really hard that someone took something that is really valuable to us," said Chase.

Natalie agrees, "They took a lot of plans for our future, just barely married trying to settle down and they take our money."

Anyone with information about this burglary needs to call the Sandy City police department.
