They will replace their Samson double by a Dopp quad just for their public image.

Stupid, no?

The runs are already highly crowded, so if they double the capacity, I think they're really getting in trouble with their snow conditions.

Unfortunatlely Bromont is merely exhibiting a commonly-held position in the ski industry. I agree that putting in a quad where a double would suffice is not necessary, but many ski areas only look at uphill capacity and either don't see or refuse to acknowledge what that does to the runs. More areas need to use their Comfortable Carrying Capacity (a measure of skier density on the hill) as a guide for upgrades.

Looks too bad. Does the current double get lines or is it fine right now?

John, what is the CCC of copper?

I know kirkwood is upgrading to around 9,000 and dodge ridge is like 6,500

A simmilar thing happened at Grouse Mountain this season. At first, I thought it was just a stupid marketing descison, but it turned out that the lift was old and needed to be replaced. This chair was 40 years old, so chances are, this is the reason. Resorts will often cover it up by saying things like "more time on the slopes than on the lifts", when in reality all they are trying to do is cover up the fact that the previous chair was replaced because it was old.

I don't know what the CCC of Copper is, but I bet if you averaged out all the pods of trails we wouldn't be exceeding it just yet. The Eagle, Flyer, Timberline Express, and K-lift pods are currently very busy, while A, A-1, H, and Blackjack are underutilised.
As far as old lifts go, whether or not they are worth replacing depends upon their condition. Baker's Chair 1 turns 52 years old this year, and is in great shape. Of course, the only original parts are the towers, terminals, and bullwheels, but that in itself is a way to extend the life of a lift by upgrading parts wherever possible (in that case, new diesel, better sheave assemblies, lighter aluminum sheaves, newer clips, and stronger carriers.) Perhaps the Sampson double has gone past the point of salvage.

It's still in very good shape for a 40 years old chairlift

it depends on whether you let the lift go to shit or not, right guys?

this sugarloaf resort in michigan, that you guys thought was the one out east, it's lifts have been hanging since 1999 with no maintenance, and i'm pretty sure they are at least 40 years old.

I've done a lot of research about sugarloaf, and everyone agrees that 5/6 of the lifts (all old doubles from the first year) would need to be almost completely replaced. some chairs are even stuck in trees that they have been blown into. the one triple chair is relatively modern but would probably need serious rehab. sometime this summer i expect to go up north and take loads of photos. i can probably get more into lift types and such later, but i know that all five doubles are the same type of lift, because i've ridden them all.

If a resort wants to get a lift to last a long time, the least they could do is maintain it well
