Beautiful and cool to some, destructive to most things, and a major pain to most mechanics. Images from the ice storm of 2008 here at Mt. Sunapee. We finally got power back early this morning since being out from sometime last Friday. Reopening Wednesday! Enjoy.

Let me know if anyone wants a higher res version as I scaled these down for slower connections.

A tree took the comline out between towers 1 and 2 on our beginner lift, and there were many trees down here and there, but that was about it. I heard that the power line to the return of one of our lifts took it pretty hard, but I haven't seen it in person so I'm not sure about that. The comline has since been fixed, so we should be good to go for tomorrow. I wasn't there today because I'm finishing up exams at school this week.

Good to hear there wasn't much damage! The lasy few days a bunch of Sunapee people have been skiing Okemo and it sounded pretty bad over there. The pics are really nice though!

Looks like nice skiing there :w00t:

Just curious, is the lift with the bullwheel issue up and running?

Looks a bit like when I was there. Well it wasn't that bad, though. But that snow in the trees sure ain't powder. I will never forget riding up Sun Bowl and watching a huge branch crack and fall right off a tree. It's not a very comforting sound. Well good luck to you guys. Hopefully it starts snowing soon instead of raining and freezing.

BTW, North Peak (the lift with the bull wheel failure last year) was up and running fine as of last season.

Yep, she was up and running in exactly 2 weeks and 1 day after it happened.

Yeah, you're telling me! This was from our storm on Christmas day, and night. THe next day we broke out two lifts on the front of the mountain. The day after that lift 9 in the 'back country'. The third day lift 11 that you see here. The first day we couldn't access lifts 9 and 11 due to the wind and storm. When I got back ther the first day, it took about 2 hours to recut the road with the cat and break trail to the towers so we could de-ice. Even so I had to belay one guy down to a tower not accessible by cat as the wind scoured some spots right down to clear blue ice. All makes for a great week.

What a suck fest, and to think I used to hate bashing the ice off the rope tow after the snow making operations! That's a whole new level there.
