Whistler Blackcomb will be streaming the opening festivities for the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola live tomorrow online. The webcast will start at 10:20 am Pacific (That's 1:20 pm Eastern) at http://www.whistlerb...bcast/index.htm
Rumors are that there will be a Red Bull sponsored BASE jumper parachuting out of a gondola cabin in the middle of the span, although the weather looks iffy for that. Also there will be some sort of "ceremonial ringing of an ox bell, a Doppelmayr tradition."

I feel like a real lift geek because I think I might actually watch that. Then again we're getting snow here in NH and I don't have to work tomorrow. Skiing might take priority. I can catch up on the Peak to Peak later.
Doppelmayr's ox bell ringing was performed for two of Loon's lifts. Part of the tradition is to send the bell for a ride around the lift. The Kancamagus Quad's bell was dropped by its handler shortly after the chair left the station. The bells are quite large. It hiked up and plucked it out of the snow and we displayed it in the lift shack for the day. I believe its now on display in the GMs office. Our gondola's bell is in a case in the Octagon Lodge.
I'm glad to hear the tradition continues for Doppelmayr lifts. It doesn't seem to have been continued for Doppelmayr-CTEC lifts.
