Aspen Mountain’s gondola will not operate on Monday due to ongoing repair work. Skiers and riders can take the Little Nell to Bell to Ajax Express chairs to reach Ajax’s summit. The Gent’s Ridge chair will also be running.
High winds caused the gondola’s communications cable to get tangled over the grip of a cabin on Saturday night. The issue was discovered Sunday morning during preoperations, but only after the moving gondola got ensnared even further.
Crews are working to put a gondola car back on track today and assess the damage to the communications line.
The gondola was closed all day Sunday and only the Little Nell chair was operating, for free.
The gondola cars were not brought into the upper terminal Saturday night because of a private event at the Sundeck that went late.
It’s not the first time the gondola has had to remain closed for a full day or longer due to some unexpected issue, said Aspen Skiing Co. officials.
