...its the 3rd day of operation and the gearbox is so hot i can feel the heat from 4 feet away and i pull the fill cap off and smoke is coming out... at least its not Christmas.

Bummer dude. You just might get the parts by Christmas to fix it . Did you leave it this way from last season or was it maintenance sabotage

its about 30 years old... never been rebuilt... crew cut down from 4 or 5 mechanics to 1 and myself, who is being trained... so yeah, its long overdue... threw a bearing on the input shaft... should be outta the lift by tomorrow... parts by next year....
