That is one AWESOME gondola, totally cannot wait to ride it! It looks just... awesome. I cannot even explain my excitement.

Not that I mean to push a thread not replied to in two months up a little, but I actually agree with skierdude9450 to the new River Run Gondola's lines. Usually, I've noticed that it has lines so long that it typically is more worth it to ride up the Summit Express lift instead. Of course, on both of the trips I've made up to Keystone this year (once in late December of 2008 and on January 31, 2009), it's been the Pika or Porcupine lots at Mountain House, which seems more worth it later at the end of the day when you factor in that it's a shorter distance to walk from your car to the Peru Express lift than it is to walk from your car at one of the River Run lots (Gold Rush for instance) through the village to either the gondola or the Summit Express lift. For some reason this year, the Pika and Porcupine lots take a little longer to fill up than their fellow lots at River Run.

Although that went a little :offtopic: I'd still like to comment on the gondola. Yes, it looks very nice to go on, but the lines offset that. In addition, I've never been on either the original gondola or the new one, just on the Summit Express. However, I do wish that they would put those inactive gates on the Summit Express lift into use right away. If they managed to put working gates on the Peru Express lift, then why couldn't they on the other high speed quads?

:kewlpics: by the way!

In my honest opinion (shared with a few folks on this forum), the loading gates are more of an impediment than an aid to the loading process. If you can't rely on your brain to tell you to follow out the chair in front from a red line marked "WAIT HERE" to a red line marked "LOAD HERE", then you should not be riding said chairlift in the first place.

It's an impressive machine. The new Doppelmayr-CTEC gondola runs in about the same line, but starts in River Run Village, and then crosses the creek. There's the mid-station which is nice, but due to full cars going up, it is very hard to get on there during early season. They let every fourth or fifth car go to allow people to load at the middle station. Being the only lift open, it's needless to say that the line at the bottom was huge. As of now, it is more of an inconvenience to have the bottom station across the river, because you end up crossing the bridge twice to get to the station: once to get to the back of the line, and again while going through the line. However, it is still a much needed improvement. The capacity was greatly increased and the ride time was cut down by almost two minutes when compared to the old gondola. (Summit Express is still faster, though.) The gondola uses the A-108 grip instead of the DT-108 which is what I had originally thought. It is uses the first UNI-G Viper terminal in North America.

All I can really say is truly :kewlpics: and I also want to make note that there are more Dopplemayr style terminals that you can find all over America but in Colorado can find only at Keystone. For instance, the UNI Terminal (Version 1) only appears here, for the Peru Express, Montezuma Express and Outback Express lifts. Just  to a bright new lift being broken in.

Is there a reason why they used the European station design?

That's not correct. Those terminals can also be found at Copper and Steamboat.

I think he's talking about the low structure (compact) terminals, which can be found only at Keystone in Colorado.

I think that all of the gondolas (with the exception of the Texas Skyway) use the traditional UNI-G terminal.

I think it's called the "Vision" terminal

That's correct, I think Viper might have been a mis-translation.

I have noticed one major flaw with the 'Vision' terminal.

As you may have noticed, the terminals don't feature a patio area at the rear end of the terminal where you could look up/down the line from the outside. The patio is very beneficial for allowing lift mechanics to knock of rime that has developed on the grips, among other things.

The Uni-GS also don't have a porch but inside the enclosure there is enough room between the grip entrance and the terminal machinery to stop a grip and de-ice it.

Deer Valley seems to have them on all their Uni-GS's. Top and bottom of Sultan, Sterling, and Lady Morgan and bottom only on Silver Strike. Maybe a special request because I don't think they're anywhere else.

About a month ago, I went to Keystone, and I noticed a few interesting changes:

Argentine's upper terminal was repainted gray to match the other lifts. A few of the towers were also repainted, and I think the bottom terminal as well.

The Summit Express lift finally received one necessary improvement: its number plates were replaced. They had worn out to the point that they had basically peeled off. The tower numbers were also redone, put on the top of the tower head instead of below the crossarms.

The pictures on skilifts are old. Most of the lifts there are now gray with beige terminals. However summit ex and ruby have green towers. The bottom terminal on ruby is also green but the top matches the others. Argentine is black. Other than that the rest of the lifts have the new colors. Check on colorado ski history for newer pics of the lifts.

Some of Argentine's towers, and its terminals, have now been repainted gray:
